SUMMARY:Holy Trinity Fall Festival
DESCRIPTION:Holy Trinity Parish will be holding its Fall Festival on Sunday\, September 15\, 12 noon to 5 pm at Pilsudski Park\, 200 Old County Rd.\, Holyoke\, MA. (Old County Rd. is off North Rd.\, Westfield\, opposite the end of E. Mountain Rd. The Park is on the right hand side 1.3 miles from the light.) The day will begin with Mass celebrated at 10:30 am. \n  \nThe Festival will feature a Polish Kitchen serving the popular Polish Plate with pierogi\, golumbki\, kielbasa and kapusta. You may also purchase orders individually. The American Kitchen will serve hot dogs\, hamburgers & kielbasa grinders. Take-out orders will be available the day of the event. Our bake sale will have delicious homemade pastries. \n  \nOur festival will include Bingo\, Straw Booth\, games of chance\, a Chinese Raffle\, plus a 50/50 Raffle. There will be children’s games\, activities and a Bounce House. Our Grand Raffle has 10 money prizes worth a total of $2\,000 with the first prize being $1\,000. Tickets are $1 each or a book of 6 tickets for $5. Raffle tickets can be obtained in advance at the parish office during office hours and at the Festival. The drawing will be at the Festival. \n  \nFor your listening and dancing pleasure The “Mark VI Band” will provide Polish & American music from 1 to 5 pm in the ballroom. The Festival is open to the public with free admission & parking\, held rain or shine. Handicap golf cart shuttle transportation from parking to festival grounds. Come for good food and a fun time. All ages are encouraged to participate as they celebrate and encourage each other to live an active\, healthy\, independent lifestyle. Walking is directly linked with good health and sustained independence. The Huntington COA has been working with Healthy Hampshire on a Town Walking Map. There will be several routes of various difficulties. Participants will collect raffle tickets for each route or each time a route is completed. The drawing for raffle prizes will be held at the end of the walk. Prizes include 2 Fitbits\, windchimes\, and Pyrex storage containers donated by Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association. There are designated 1-mile loops on several locations on the map. Some loops are easier than others and to achieve the 1-mile goal\, the number of repeated circuits will be indicated. Participants are encouraged to take as long as they need to finish walking 1 mile. Those who complete a 1 mile walk will have their name submitted to MCOA for a statewide raffle. All walkers with varying speeds and abilities are welcome to participate in the walk. Check in and pick up of walking maps and bottled water will be at 10:30 a.m. Entertainment will be at 11:00 a.m. featuring Country\, Crossover\, & Originals by David Housman & Ed Bentley. Free food (Chicken and Salad with Pita Bread or Hot Chili if a cold day) will be served at 12:30 p.m. The raffle prize drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. and participants must be present to win. DESCRIPTION:As we welcome the fall\, we will once again be holding our Walk Around the Park. The walks will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. starting September 12. DESCRIPTION:Westfield State University Department of Communication will host a farm-to-table dinner on Sunday\, August 25\, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the grounds of the Horace Mann Center located at 333 Western Avenue in Westfield. \n  \nTitled “Dinner at Henry’s Garden\,” the event honors the late Dr. Henry Wefing\, professor emeritus of communication\, who served the University for 30 years. Proceeds will benefit the Henry Wefing Journalism Scholarship\, which has been awarded annually since 2016. \n  \nThe menu will feature locally-sourced ingredients. Menu options include roast beef with arugula\, wild mushroom polenta\, goat cheese and strawberry crostini\, and smoked salmon for appetizers; a vegetarian option or grilled barbecue chicken with vegetable and salad options for dinner; and summer plum upside down cake for dessert. \n  \nDiners will be seated for dinner next to the garden Dr. Wefing planted in 2007. He used to donate the produce to the Westfield Food Pantry. Today\, the garden is maintained by volunteers\, including faculty\, staff and students. \n  \nSponsored by MassLive\, The Westfield News\, Pennysaver\, and Jerome’s Party Plus/Taylor Rental\, the event will feature food prepared by Westfield State Dining Executive Chef Mary Reilly\, a gold medalist in a 2018 American Culinary Federation-sanctioned culinary competition. She is a frequent guest on WWLP’s Mass Appeal\, the former publisher of Edible Pioneer Valley and the co-author of Home Sausage Making (Storey Press\, 2017). A portion of the dinner will be prepared outside on site and Reilly will be available to meet guests\, answer questions\, and discuss the food and the importance of using locally-sourced ingredients. \n  \nThe event aligns with the University’s commitment to provide local\, sustainable food to its campus community. In 2016\, Westfield State launched a self-operating dining services system based on a farm-to-fork model. Today\, Westfield State Dining partners with more than 30 local farmers and food producers. \n  \nDinner tickets are $60 and must be purchased in advance\, as seating is limited and the event has sold out each year. The trio of Chilean vocalist Natalia Bernal\, seven-string guitarist Jason Ennis\, and keyboardist Mike Eckroth weave Jazz and Latin American sounds across the country and internationally. \n  \nA meet-the-artists reception with refreshments will be held at intermission in the hall’s art gallery\, exhibiting the paintings of Jean Gaitenby. DESCRIPTION:The Westfield River Watershed Association (WRWA) and the Western Mass. Fly Fishermen will offer a free\, Introduction to Fly Fishing clinic Saturday\, August 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The clinic will take place on Route 20 in Huntington\, Mass.\, in the turnout on the Westfield River\, across from the Huntington Health Center. Children are welcome with the supervision of an adult at this family-friendly event. \n  \nPeople can drop in throughout the morning and watch a fly tying demonstration as well as practice casting. In addition to fly fishing activities\, a biologist will be on hand to net insects from the river and help participants learn to identify them under microscopes. WRWA encourages people who own a fly rod and want to learn more about using it\, to bring it to the clinic. \n  \nBrian Conz\, WRWA president\, says a tribute to the late Bill Rose\, president of both the watershed and fly-fishing associations\, by both groups is being planned for fall. DESCRIPTION:The annual Food Fest sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westfield will return to Elm Street for a fifth year on Friday and Saturday\, August 23 and 24\, bringing music\, food and entertainment downtown. The event will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. On Saturday it will start at noon and close at 9 p.m. \n  \nThe Food Fest will feature non-stop entertainment with local bands performing on two stages. New activities this year include a climbing wall provided by the Boy Scout Council of Western Massachusetts and there will be games at the south end of Elm Street after 3 p.m. on Saturday\, including “cornhole”. The classic car show will return this year from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday. \n  \nFood for the fest will be provided by returning vendors including Janik’s Pierogis\, Alo Saigon\, Skyline Trading Company\, Puks Grill\, Moe’s Donuts\, Bottega Cucina Tia Food\, Angelo’s Fried Dough\, Tatter Tots\, Moolicious Ice Cream\, Pandolfi Kettle Corn\, The Boys and Girls Club of Westfield\, The Boy Scouts\, The Westfield Kiwanis Club\, Little George’s and the North Elm Butcher Block. Other vendors will offer a variety of non-food items. \n  \nThe Rotary Club will offer beer and malt beverages from two beverage wagons. This year\, the club will stage a complimentary wine tasting on both nights\, 6 – 9 p.m.\, adjacent to the south stage. \n  \nThe 2018 Food Fest brought about 10\,000 participants to the city’s downtown for the free event and organizers hope to exceed that number this year.
