SUMMARY:Rotary Southwick to bring The Rich Badowski Blues Band\, The Savage Brothers\, and blues legend James Montgomery to Whalley Park
DESCRIPTION:On July 17\, Rotary will kick off its concert series at Whalley Park\, hosting Rich Badowski and his blues band. On July 24\, The Savage Brothers funkin’ rockin’ rhythm’ band will perform\, and on August 14\, blues legend James Montgomery will take the stage. Admission is free. All concerts begin at 6 pm until 8:30 pm\, rain or shine. Every year\, Rotary continues to unite the community. The concerts bring the community together through good music and good times\, a tradition the club hopes to continue. \n  \nAll concerts will be held at Whalley Park pavilion on Powder Mill Road. Smokey Waters will be available selling their popular BBQ\, and Rotary will have a beverage tent selling wine\, beer\, soft drinks and water. No coolers are allowed. Everyone is encouraged to bring a chair. \n  \nRotary continues to offer sponsorships for the summer series. Three levels in the amount of $500\, $300\, and $100 are available. A commitment of any amount is welcome\, greatly appreciated\, and will keep the music rolling! The club continues to work towards two more performances in August. SUMMARY:YMCA of Greater Westfield to Offer MIGHTY Pediatric Weight Management Program
DESCRIPTION:The YMCA of Greater Westfield\, in collaboration with Baystate Health\, is offering the MIGHTY (Moving\, Improving\, and Gaining Health Together at the YMCA) program\, beginning July 16. \n  \nMIGHTY\, funded by a grant from Kohl’s Cares\, is an evidence-based\, multi-component pediatric weight management program for children with a body mass index above the 95th percentile. This free program meets twice per month\, over a six-month period. During each two-hour session\, children and their families engage with exercise specialists\, nutritionists and behavioral health workers in classroom instruction and group exercise sessions. The upcoming session is for children between the ages of 10-13. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 4-6 pm beginning July 16. \n  \nTo be eligible for the MIGHTY Program\, participants must be at or above the 95th percentile for body mass index (BMI)\, provide a medical clearance form signed by their health care provider and attend a registration session at the YMCA of Greater Westfield. SUMMARY:Berkshire Mountain Boys Sing Songs of Yesteryear
DESCRIPTION:The Berkshire Mountain Boys keep the old songs alive with their repertoire of bluegrass\, gospel\, folk ballads\, and country music of yesteryear on Sunday\, July 14 at 2 pm at the Historic North Hall in Huntington. The Berkshire Mountain Boys began with Phil Pothier on autoharp and vocals and Charlie Mihlek on guitar and vocals\, who have been performing together for over 50 years locally and across the country. They grew to a quartet by adding Dan Damkauskas on banjo and Don Lownds on mandolin\, as they entertain the crowd with vintage favorites of bluegrass\, gospel\, folk ballads\, and country music. \n  \nA meet-the-artists reception with refreshments will be held at intermission in the hall’s art gallery. The gallery will be exhibiting the nature and landscape photography of Richard Chapman. Admission is $10 at the door\, student/youth admission is free. Performance is at Historic North Hall\, 40 Searle Road (off Route 66) in Huntington. The hall is wheelchair-accessible and air-conditioned. Come hear what flower is new and how long it will survive. MEET AT BRAY LAKE. \n  \nSATURDAY\, July 13\, 1:00 p.m. HIKE D.O.C. TRAI. This 1 ½ – 2 hour hike travels on the D.O.C. Trail\, one of the lesser used trails. Who knows what natural wonders are to be seen on this moderately strenuous trail Bring water and bug spray. \n  \nSUNDAY\, July 14\, 10:30 a.m. BIRDING FOR BEGINNERS. This one hour program is meant to help beginners learn the basics of birding. The use of bird guides\, lists and binoculars are used to learn about these feathered creatures. \n  \nSUNDAY\, July 14\, 1:00 p.m. SUNDAY AFTERNOON FAMILY PROGRAM. The title for this week’s program is “Dragonflies\, Nature’s Helicopters” Dragonflies are fascinating in their movement and characteristics. Come learn about these unique insects and their world of flight. \n  \nMONDAY\, July 15\, 10:30 a.m. JUNIOR RANGERS. Children ages 5-6 are welcome to participate in this 4 week program to become a certified Junior Ranger. Through exploration\, crafts and games\, participants can receive an official Junior Ranger patch and certificate. Each child must attend 3 out of 4 classes to qualify for this status. \n  \nMONDAY\, July 15\, 1:00 p.m. ADVANCED HIKE FOR SENIORS. Seniors and others who want more of a challenging hike can join in on this one-two hour hike up one of the more strenuous trails. The hike on these trails is at a slower pace to accommodate this age bracket. Bring water. \n  \nTUESDAY\, July 16\, 10:30 a.m. SENIOR HIKE. Seniors can join in on this easy paced one hour hike. The terrain is mostly easy and the nature talk quite abundant. Bring water and bug spray \n  \nTUESDAY\, July 16\, 2:00 p.m. EXPLORERS CLUB. This weekly 1-2 hour program lets children ages 10-14 learn map reading skills\, trail markings and proper hiking techniques as we travel on all the trails here at Mt. Tom. Plus of course nature is observed closely. Bring water and bug spray. \n  \nThese programs are sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and are free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Ed Popielarczyk is a professional magician\, balloon sculptor\, flea circus ringmaster\, and storyteller. He has been entertaining children and family audiences for over 30 years. His magic show is a comedy show that uses a lot of audience participation. The kids are the stars because they make the magic happen. He usually has lots of trouble! He just doesn’t “do a trick”; he tells a story that revolves around each trick. It may be a short story or a longer one\, but each story helps to bring the trick together. Every child who comes on “stage” to be a helper receives a souvenir! The show is appropriate for ages three and up. Bring water and bug spray. \n  \nSUNDAY\, July 7\, 10:30 a.m. BIRDING FOR BEGINNERS. This one hour program is meant to help beginners learn the basics of birding. The title for this week’s program is “ANIMAL HOMES” Everything needs a home of some kind even animals in the wild. The band also includes modern rock songs that many will love and dance to as well. The orchestra is led by the lovely vocals of Ann Maggs and complimented nicely by the vocals of Ted Nowak. They are under the direction of Brian Cervone. Sidewalk chalk will be provided for anyone who would like to draw their favorite patriotic symbol on our designated spot. \nMONDAY\, July 1\, 10:30 a.m. NATURE STORY TIME. This one hour program provides the opportunity for children and adults to hear some of their favorite nature stories read out loud. Also bring one of your favorite books and hear that story read to all. \nMONDAY\, July 1\, 1:00 p.m. ADVANCED HIKE FOR SENIORS. Seniors and others who want more of a challenging hike can join in on this one-two hour hike up one of the more strenuous trails. The hike on these trails is at a slower pace to accommodate this age bracket. Bring water. \nTUESDAY\, July 2\, 10:30 a.m. SENIOR HIKE. Seniors can join in on this easy paced one hour hike. The terrain is mostly easy and the nature talk quite abundant. Bring water and bug spray \nTUESDAY\, July 2\, 2:00 p.m. EXPLORERS CLUB. This weekly 1-2 hour program lets children ages 10-14 learn map reading skills\, trail markings and proper hiking techniques as we travel on all the trails here at Mt. Tom. Plus of course nature is observed closely. Bring water and bug spray. \nThese programs are sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and are free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Sacred Heart Parish at 1065 Springfield Street in Feeding Hills will celebrate this vigil on Friday\, June 28 beginning with 9:00 AM Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will immediately follow and continue throughout the day until midnight. There will be Eucharistic Adoration\, Hymns\, Rosaries\, Chaplets and other devotional prayer throughout the vigil. There will be Mass Saturday\, June 29 at 9:00 am for the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
