The many snakes that live in and near the lake have many adaptations to survive this watery habitat. Their survival are discussed in this 60 minute program. MEET AT BRAY LAKE. \n  \nSATURDAY\, July 6\, 1:00 p.m. HIKE AROUND BRAY LAKE. This 1 ½ – 2 hour hike travels around Bray Lake on the outer loop. The terrain is mostly easy with a few moderately strenuous spots. Discussions center around the lake and its inhabitants. MEET AT STONEHOUSE VISITOR CENTER. Bring water and bug spray. \n  \nSUNDAY\, July 7\, 10:30 a.m. BIRDING FOR BEGINNERS. This one hour program is meant to help beginners learn the basics of birding. The use of bird guides\, lists and binoculars are used to learn about these feathered creatures. \n  \nSUNDAY\, July 7\, 1:00 p.m. SUNDAY AFTERNOON FAMILY PROGRAM. The title for this week’s program is “ANIMAL HOMES” Everything needs a home of some kind even animals in the wild. This program explores where each animals chooses their favorite spot for a safe and comfy abode. \n  \nMONDAY\, July 8\, 10:30 a.m. JUNIOR RANGERS. Children ages 5-6 are welcome to participate in this 4 week program to become a certified Junior Ranger. Through exploration\, crafts and games\, participants can receive an official Junior Ranger patch and certificate. Each child must attend 3 out of 4 classes to qualify for this status. \n  \nMONDAY\, July 8\, 1:00 p.m. ADVANCED HIKE FOR SENIORS. Seniors and others who want more of a challenging hike can join in on this one-two hour hike up one of the more strenuous trails. The hike on these trails is at a slower pace to accommodate this age bracket. Bring water. \n  \nTUESDAY\, July 9\, 10:30 a.m. SENIOR HIKE. Seniors can join in on this easy paced one hour hike. The terrain is mostly easy and the nature talk quite abundant. Bring water and bug spray \n  \nTUESDAY\, July 9\, 2:00 p.m. EXPLORERS CLUB. This weekly 1-2 hour program lets children ages 10-14 learn map reading skills\, trail markings and proper hiking techniques as we travel on all the trails here at Mt. Tom. Plus of course nature is observed closely. Bring water and bug spray. \n  \nThese programs are sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and are free and open to the public. The band also includes modern rock songs that many will love and dance to as well. The orchestra is led by the lovely vocals of Ann Maggs and complimented nicely by the vocals of Ted Nowak. They are under the direction of Brian Cervone. This 1 ½ hour hike on the Quarry Trail travels on mostly easy terrain at a moderate pace. Along the way quarries and their operations are discussed. Bring water and bug spray. \n  \nSUNDAY\, June 23\, 10:30 a.m. BIRDING FOR BEGINNERS. This one hour program is meant to help beginners learn the basics of birding. The use of bird guides\, lists and binoculars are used to learn about the local feathered inhabitants of Mt. Tom \n  \nSUNDAY\, June 23\, 1:00 p.m. SUNDAY AFTERNOON FAMILY PROGRAM. This week’s program is titled “SPIDERS AND THEIR WEBS” Spiders are fascinating with their ability to spin a web. Discover different types of web\, their uses and which spiders made them. \n  \nMONDAY\, June 24\, 10:30 a.m. NATURE FOR THE BEGINNING NATURALIST. \nChildren ages 6-8 can learn about nature and how to observe from a Naturalist’s point of view. Habitats\, plants and animals species are explored through games\, crafts and observation in this one hour program. \n  \nMONDAY\, June 24\, 1:00 p.m. ADVANCED HIKE FOR SENIORS. Seniors and others who want more of a challenging hike can join in on this one-two hour hike up one of the more strenuous trails. The hike on these trails will be at a slower pace to accommodate this age bracket. Bring water. \n  \nTUESDAY\, June 25\, 10:30 a.m. SENIOR HIKE. Seniors can join in on this easy paced one hour hike. The terrain will be mostly easy and the nature talk will be abundant. Bring water. \n  \nTUESDAY\, June 25\, 2:00 p.m. SO YOU WANT TO BE A RANGER. Children ages 9-14 have the opportunity to learn how to present a nature topic to friends and family. Through hiking. guide books and interactive exploration children learn the fundamentals of program creation and presentation. At the end of this 5 week program everyone has a chance to present a topic of their choice through whatever means of expression they desire (verbal\, art\, music\, poetry\, photography etc.) \n  \nThese programs are sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and are free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Hilltown Open Studio Tour announces 2019 dates
DESCRIPTION:Experience first-hand the creative processes of Western Massachusetts artists! The Hilltown Arts Alliance is pleased to welcome visitors to the second Open Studio Tour featuring thirty artists across five Hilltowns. The tour will feature artists of a variety of media and a discussion of their work on both the technical and creative side. The 2019 tour will be on June 22nd and 23rd and will occur from 10 am to 5 pm on both days. \n  \nThe tour is an admission-free event\, but many of the artists will have work for sale. Meander timeless back roads\, rolling hills\, farms\, forests and mountain streams as you make your way between studios. You may begin at any studio (locations and map on www.hilltownartsalliance.org). \n  \nNew this year will be an exciting partnership with the William Cullen Bryant Homestead\, a property of the Trustees. This National Historic Landmark in Cummington\, MA is the residence of one of America’s greatest poets. William Cullen Bryant’s verses celebrate this quintessential American landscape and helped inspire the 19th-century land conservation movement. \n  \nThe work of sculptor Beckie Kravetz\, landscape painter Scott Heyl\, and metal sculptor James Kitchen will be on display at the Homestead during the tour. Kitchen will do demonstrations of turning forgotten pieces of scrap metal from the Homestead barn into art. Tours of the Homestead with highlights of Bryant’s influence in the arts will also be available that day to visitors. \n  \nAfter the tour on Saturday\, June 22nd\, visit the Hilltown Bash and Cummington Community Picnic\, featuring a potluck\, dancing\, and music from fresh\, local talent. To conclude the Hilltown Open Studio Tour\, The Bryant Homestead will host a farm-to-table multi-course dinner in the field curated and prepared by Wheelhouse Farm on Sunday\, June 23rd. Reservations will be required and can be made online at thetrustees.org/bryanthomestead.

SUMMARY:Armory Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, June 22 for our annual Armory Day celebration from 10:00am-4:00pm. This event recognizes the relationship between Springfield Armory firearms and the American soldier. Reenactors in the living history military encampment will portray over 50 infantrymen from 17th century militia\, Civil War\, World War One\, World War Two\, Korean War and the Vietnam War. Admission is free. \n  \nIn addition\, visitors will have the opportunity to watch 18th & 19th century blank firing demonstrations\, tour the Commandant’s House\, watch a wet-plate photography demonstration\, talk with reenactors in the military encampment\, view two new photography exhibits\, partake in Junior Ranger activities\, and more. Friends of the Springfield Armory NHS will also be having a military used book sale inside the museum.
