This program is free\, and open to the public. \n  \nInvestment and Retirement Fees – with Susan Allen\, Wednesday\, April 10th from 6:30-8pm. Join Financial Advisor\, Susan Allen\, for a workshop that will explain the fees on your 401k\, IRA and brokerage accounts. She will discuss the charges on mutual funds and annuities\, the commissions and penalties on Index funds\, and the penalties to avoid when you “roll over” your money. SUMMARY:Small Planet Dancers Present: The Greatest Generation: A Tribute to the Heroes of WWII
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 7 at 2 p.m.\, the Westfield Senior Center Great Room will explode with talent as the full ensemble of the Small Planet Dancers present ‘The Greatest Generation: A Tribute to the Heroes of World War II.’ This 90-minute program commemorates the history of the war through dance routines set to Big Band music\, with the dancers performing in authentic military and 1940s dress. Included are readings about the Tuskegee Airmen\, the Navajo Code Talkers\, and the 442 Infantry. Familiar songs of the era will be sung and accompanied on the piano. All Veterans are the guests of honor for their faithful service to our country. This event is family friendly\, open to the public\, and free of charge. The Westfield Senior Center is located at 45 Noble Street. This entertaining Sunday afternoon program is made possible by a grant from the Westfield Cultural Council.

DESCRIPTION:Trivia Nite is here again! This year marks the 10th year of this fundraising event at the Russell VFW on Rt. 20\, to be held Saturday evening April 6th. The doors open at 6:00 PM and the first round starts at 7:00 PM sharp. The entrance donation is $10 per person. \n  \nThe game is played in teams consisting of up to 10 persons. Cash prizes will be awarded to the team with the highest score at the end of two\, five game sessions consisting of 10 questions per game. Electronic devices are prohibited during games and cell phones must be turned off. Table reservations are suggested but walk-ins are welcome and can play alone or join another team. DESCRIPTION:Gateway Regional High School will offer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Career Exploration Program to interested juniors and seniors on Tuesday\, April 9. There is no cost to take the ASVAB. \n  \nThe ASVAB Program is a career exploration and planning program that includes a multiple-aptitude test battery\, an interest inventory\, and career planning tools designed to help students explore the world of work. It usually takes 3 hours to complete and will begin at 8 a.m. on April 9. \n  \nThis exam can help students identify their interests\, skills and work-related values; match those with occupations; learn where and how to get information on different careers; and develop career decision-making skills. \n  \nASVAB was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense for military-related purposes\, and students must take the ASVAB to enter a variety of military careers. Students wishing to join the military should take this test. However\, the ASVAB Program has been re-designed so that all students\, regardless of their plans after high school\, can learn more about themselves and identify potentially satisfying careers. DESCRIPTION:Westfield on Weekends has issued a Call to Artists for a unique place-making opportunity in Downtown. WOW is searching for artists to submit their ideas and designs to beautify three utility boxes located in the Gaslight District\, in order to increase walkability and infuse the streetscape with accessible art during Westfield’s 350th Birthday celebration on May 18-19. The two existing boxes\, with the theme of “Celebrate Westfield” are located in front of Fast Feet and the Olver PVTA station Downtown. \n  \nPrograms to create non-conventional murals are not new; cities such as Boston\, Northampton\, and Easthampton have all carried out similar beautification programs in their cities\, to great success. WOW is funding this program through a Westfield Cultural Council grant. The three boxes to be painted in 2019 are located in front of Blue Umbrella Books\, Baystate Dental\, and Stop and Shop. They will be painted live during the 350th Celebration immediately following the Run Westfield 5K. \n  \nThe theme all artists are asked to adhere to is “Westfield’s 350th”. Artists are invited to submit their ideas to paint the boxes to the selection committee. The artists which are chosen will be paid for their time and reimbursed for materials. SUMMARY:Western Mass Hilltown Hikers group hike Dynamite Box Trail
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 30th 10:00 am. Chester-Blandford State Forest is a publicly owned forest with recreational features located in the two towns for which it is named; this is the final one of three that we will explore this winter. Join us for approximately a two hour hike starting at Sanderson Brook Road which runs along Sanderson Brook to the top of Sanderson Falls\, then past the waterfall vista\, the CCC camp chimney\, we will then be at the 4 trail junction in the middle of the State Forest. We will then head up the Dynamite Box Trail\, hiking the pine forest on this trail passing a swamp and beaver dam\, crossing a stream\, and then work our way uphill to higher ground in Blandford. We will then descend by completing this loop with amazing views on Beulah Land Road and continue back down Sanderson Brook to the parking lot. For those looking for a shorter hike\, simply hike to the Falls\, which we will pass and then return the way we came after spending some time at the Falls. To the falls and back is a one hour hike. NOTE: If weather/hiking conditions are poor we will only hike to the Falls and back. \n  \nMeet at the Sanderson Falls parking lot on Route 20 in Chester across from Bannish Lumber. The trail is a wide logging road\, with no footpaths to Dynamite Box. Dynamite Box Trail may be icy and/or muddy at this time of year and is not flat so be prepared and wear appropriate gear\, boots\, spikes\, poles or snowshoes. Expect loose rocks and roots and water. \n  \nDepending on the weather conditions the week before\, be prepared for mud\, snow and ice. Maps and bottled water will be provided. DESCRIPTION:In 2018\, the sport of Powerlifting joined the lineup of Greater Springfield Special Olympics teams for the first time\, competing in the Summer Games at Harvard University. In their first year\, all six athletes earned medals and awards for their performance. \n  \nThe 2019 team has grown to include eight young men; Gregory Gousy of East Longmeadow\, Vincent Pirro of Feeding Hills\, Chad Diclementi of Agawam\, Josh Gregoire of Chicopee\, Gilberto Molina of Westfield\, and William Bradford\, Nathan Pelletier and Angel Roman\, all of Springfield. \n  \nThe team is training at PowerClean Fitness (PCF) in East Longmeadow\, under the guidance of PCF owner Michael Zolkiewicz\, a professional Highland Games and Strongman athlete who has worked as a strength coach and personal trainer for 19 years. Joining the all-volunteer coaches this year to provide additional training expertise for the athletes is Justin Fisher\, a world-class\, award-winning Strongman competitor. \n  \nTo raise funds to buy team gear\, PCF is hosting its annual deadlifting competition “Donuts and Deadlifts” on Saturday March 30th at 9 a.m. at PowerClean Fitness\, 45 Baldwin St.\, East Longmeadow. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Special Olympics team. That’s the new Talk of the Town program airing on Westfield’s Community Public Access Channel 15\, according to the program’s creator\, host and executive producer Roberta Page\, president of Page One Productions\, LLC of West Springfield. \n  \nTalk of the Town went on location in 2018 to the Westfield Police Department to follow from the time a cruiser with a prisoner is at the department’s garage door opening until the prisoner is released from detention. Community Police Lieutenant Eric Hall assisted with the narration. Westfield Police Officer Juanita Mejias\, graciously\, served as the handcuffed “prisoner” and Officer Douglas LaValley as the “arresting” officer. \n  \nThe program will start airing the week of March 25th and will continue to air Sundays at 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.\, Mondays at 11 p.m.\, Tuesdays at 10 a.m.\, Thursdays at 5 p.m.\, and Fridays at 7 p.m. time slots and will continue through the end of May. \n  \nTalk of the Town is a program featuring and showcasing people\, places and things making differences in the community and beyond. SUMMARY:Hearing Aid Service Expanded at the Westfield Senior Center
DESCRIPTION:For several years\, Jeff Halls from Baystate Hearing Aids has been at the Westfield Senior Center\, 45 Noble Street\, on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon. Because of an increased demand for this type of service\, Gary Wynn owner of New Ears in Southwick will be at the Senior Center on the second Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both Jeff and Gary are Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialists. They evaluate each participant’s needs on an individual basis including accurate hearing screening\, in-the-canal earwax inspection\, hearing aid cleaning\, and free minor repairs including tubing replacements. Visits are approximately 15 to 30 minutes in length. The informational and testing services provided at the Westfield Senior Center are free of charge to those who have an appointment.
