DESCRIPTION:Experience Music at United will present the Holyoke High School Madrigal Singers and Bell Choir. This holiday concert will take place on December 9 at 2pm at the United Congregational Church of Holyoke in Skinner Chapel. The Madrigal Singers are an a capella performing ensemble of singers. The Bell Choir consists of 16 ringers playing three octaves of Carillon Bells. \nThe United Congregational Church of Holyoke is bounded by High\, Appleton (Rte 141)\, and Maple Streets. Ample free parking is located in the lot immediately across Appleton Street and in the Franklin lot behind the War Memorial Building\, across Maple Street from the church. Street parking is free. The chapel and the church are fully accessible. All concerts are offered for a suggested donation of $10 ($5 for students and seniors). The event begins at 11 a.m. with an hour of dancing to the sounds of Richie Mitnick on the keyboard. Dinner will follow and then the Sounds of Music Singers will be the featured entertainment. A raffle will be held with many wonderful prizes donated by local businesses. In addition\, the Friends of the Westfield Senior Center will be holding a special raffle with the winner receiving a festive holiday decoration with $100 worth of lottery tickets. The Holiday Gala will be held at Tekoa Country Club on Thursday\, December 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Westfield Senior Center\, 45 Noble Street\, for $20 (no more than four tickets per person). The special holiday menu will include fruit cup\, New England Pot Roast\, green beans almandine\, butternut squash\, and chocolate mousse for dessert. The buffet breakfast will feature pancakes\, scrambled eggs\, ham\, sausage\, orange juice\, coffee\, tea\, and milk. Prizes will be raffled throughout the morning and Santa Claus will be available for photos. The cost for breakfast is $8.00 per adult and $5.00 for children under 12. Proceeds will be used to support the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund and the Southwick Recreation Center. \nPast donations received by the Southwick Lions Club have been returned to the community in the form of scholarships\, aid due to financial constraints to those in need of glasses or hearing aids\, and financing research for sight\, hearing\, and diabetes. Funding has also been provided to the local food pantry\, schools\, police department\, fire department\, our veterans\, and other community resources. \nThe Southwick Lions Club has 54 members and meets on the 1st Thursday of each month at Tucker’s Restaurant at 7:00 PM. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. Helen Keller challenged the Lions Club to be the knights of the blind and deaf. Best known for their efforts to eradicate preventable blindness Lions Clubs assist those in need\, provide clean drinking water\, and assist in diabetes research. New members are welcome. DESCRIPTION:ArtWorks of Westfield\, Inc.\, a Westfield-based\, non-profit\, all volunteer organization promoting and supporting the arts and culture in Westfield\, is inviting local artists to display their work at two different December art shows taking place in the city. IMAGES: A Holiday Fine Art Show will take place on Friday December 7th and Saturday December 8th at St. John’s Lutheran Church\, located at 60 Broad Street in Westfield. An Images of Westfield art show heritage presentation that began in 2016\, IMAGES will feature the work of up to thirty local and region artists. \nMedia accepted for the show includes painting\, drawing\, photography\, sculpture\, pottery and mixed media. Artists interested in participating in the show should submit three representative samples of their work in jpeg format to the selection committee at artworkswestfield@gmail.com. Submissions should also include the artist name\, email\, phone\, medium and title of each piece. There is no fee to submit samples for this show. Deadline to apply is December 1\, 2018. Notice of acceptance into the show will be released no later than December 3\, 2018. \nDisplay space at the show is one side of a 4’x6’ display panel. Table top display space will also be available. Upon acceptance\, artists will submit a bio or artist statement\, sign up to become an artworks member\, review show set up/take down guidelines and sales commission schedule. \nSmall Art Show Celebration\, the theme of the monthly ArtWalk Westfield event taking place on December 21st from 5-7pm\, will feature art work no larger than 154 square inches.
