DESCRIPTION:ArtWorks of Westfield\, Inc.\, a Westfield-based\, non-profit\, all volunteer organization promoting and supporting the arts and culture in Westfield\, is inviting local artists to display their work at two different December art shows taking place in the city. IMAGES: A Holiday Fine Art Show will take place on Friday December 7th and Saturday December 8th at St. John’s Lutheran Church\, located at 60 Broad Street in Westfield. An Images of Westfield art show heritage presentation that began in 2016\, IMAGES will feature the work of up to thirty local and region artists. \nMedia accepted for the show includes painting\, drawing\, photography\, sculpture\, pottery and mixed media. Artists interested in participating in the show should submit three representative samples of their work in jpeg format to the selection committee at artworkswestfield@gmail.com. Submissions should also include the artist name\, email\, phone\, medium and title of each piece. There is no fee to submit samples for this show. Deadline to apply is December 1\, 2018. Notice of acceptance into the show will be released no later than December 3\, 2018. \nDisplay space at the show is one side of a 4’x6’ display panel. Table top display space will also be available. Upon acceptance\, artists will submit a bio or artist statement\, sign up to become an artworks member\, review show set up/take down guidelines and sales commission schedule. \nSmall Art Show Celebration\, the theme of the monthly ArtWalk Westfield event taking place on December 21st from 5-7pm\, will feature art work no larger than 154 square inches. Think 3×6\, 5×7\, 8×10\, 11×14 and all points in between! ArtWalk Westfield\, launched in June of this year in the Gaslight District of downtown Westfield along Elm Street between Church Street and School Street\, features pop-up art galleries in Blended Vintage Marketplace\, Mama Cakes\, Two Rivers Burrito\, Rosewood Home & Gifts and Fast Feet. DESCRIPTION:From Monday\, November 19 through Wednesday\, November 21\, high school students have the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops relating to college. Monday of College Week includes a workshop for grades 9-12 in the Career Center called “Work & College: Before\, During and After” offered by regional economic development director Jeanne LeClair. Seniors will have several workshop options on Monday including Common College Application Support\, Instant Admissions to Western New England University and Bath Path University\, and a Scholarship Workshop. \nCollege Week continues on Tuesday with Instant Admissions to American International College\, Holyoke Community College\, and Springfield Technical Community College for seniors. All high school students may participate in an information session from Asnuntuck Community College and Mock Interviews (for jobs or college) led by Assistant Principal Deanna LeBlanc. Tuesday culminates with a school-wide College Application Celebration Assembly in the Gateway Performing Arts Center\, where seniors who have completed at least one college application (before Thanksgiving!) will be celebrated and those accepted this week via instant admissions will be announced. \nOn Wednesday\, the half-day before Thanksgiving\, all students and staff are invited to wear college or military apparel. Students will receive spirit points for their class (as part of the annual competition for the end-of-year Spirit Trophy). An Alumni College Panel will be convened and will host a Q & A session with each class throughout that morning. Gateway alumni who are willing to serve on the panel should call 685-1107. \nOn Wednesday\, November 28\, Gateway seniors and their parents/guardians are invited to a financial aid workshop hosted by the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA). Completing the FAFSA application for college financial aid will be covered. Workshops are optional and students can sign up in the guidance office if they choose to attend.

DESCRIPTION:Our Lady of the Lake Church\, 224 Sheep pasture Rd.\, Southwick\, will hold its 7th Annual Christmas Craft Fair and Bake Sale on Saturday\, November 17th from 10 – 4pm and Sunday\, November 18th from 8:30am – noon. There will be many beautiful crafts and artworks for sale and to enjoy as well as a raffle of craft items! The building is all handicapped assessable and there is plenty of parking. There will be free coffee throughout the fair and the Knights of Columbus will have hamburgers and hot dogs for sale on Saturday\, and doughnuts on Sunday! Come and join us and begin the Thanksgiving and Christmas season with us! Funds raised will go toward Religious Education Activities. SUMMARY:Penny Social for Gateway Regional High School choirs
DESCRIPTION:The Gateway Regional High School choirs are again holding their annual Penny Social on Friday\, November 16 with item viewing beginning at 5 p.m.\, and auction beginning at 6 p.m. This event will be held in the Gateway cafeteria\, with plenty of parking out in front of the school. \nPenny Socials have been a New England tradition for many years. Patrons purchase sheets of tickets. As auction items are held up\, people put in as many of their tickets as they wish and a winning ticket is pulled for each item. There are lots of gift certificates from area businesses. Advance tickets may be purchased at Main Street Styles in Huntington or in the choir room at the school. Four sheets of 25 tickets are available for $1. Special prize tickets will be $1 each\, with 6 for $5.00. Tickets will also be available at the door. The event will also feature a holiday bake sale. Everyone is invited to come in and join this fun and exciting event!

SUMMARY:RED KETTLE CMAPAIGN TO KICK OFF AT HOLYOKE MALL
DESCRIPTION:Holyoke Mall is proud to partner with The Salvation Army for their annual Red Kettle Kick Off on Friday\, November 16\, 2018\, at 11:30 a.m. on the Upper Level near AT&T. The Kick Off event signals the start of the Red Kettle Campaign\, an initiative which funds programs and services for thousands of families\, youth and senior citizens in our community and across Massachusetts each year. \nBell ringers will be accepting donations at various exterior entrances across the shopping center each day until December 24\, 2018. The Salvation Army encourages attendees to wear red in support as their annual campaign begins. To complement the Red Kettle Campaign\, The Salvation Army is set to host another annual tradition\, the Angel Tree. According to The Salvation Army\, this program provides clothing and toys for children in need. Each Angel Tree is decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name\, age\, and gender of a child who is in need of a gift. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. \nShoppers are encouraged to visit the Angel Tree on Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning on Friday\, November 16 and running until Sunday\, December 23\, 2018.

DESCRIPTION:ArtWalk Westfield\, a free cultural experience that takes place on the third Friday of each month in downtown Westfield\, will feature a unique mix of local artists and musicians this Friday November 16th from 5-7pm in pop-up art galleries located in the Gaslight Gallery District along Elm Street between Church and School Streets. \nLocal artist Thomas Rickis\, whose body of work consists of watercolors\, oils and mixed media\, will be the featured artist at the Blended Vintage Marketplace. Dale Nicodemi\, who began over 20 years ago as a pen and ink artist creating drawings of beautiful parks and architecture\, will be on hand to chat about her work on display at Two Rivers Burrito. Jen Dorgan\, and a collaboration of students from the Piece of My Art Studio\, will showcase their work at Mama Cakes. John Blanchard\, a Westfield painter who attended Holyoke Community College as well as Westfield State University\, will feature his work at Rosewood Home & Gifts and James Johnson-Corwin\, Westfield acrylic painter/illustrator\, will show is work and conduct a live demonstration on his “industrial art easel” at Fast Feet – The Running Experts. \nIn addition to a live art demonstration at Fast Feet\, Westfield duo The Keepers will be playing live at Fast Feet as well. Light refreshments will be served. The students from Piece of My Art Studio will be conducting live demonstrations at Mama Cakes. All artists will be on hand at each pop up gallery location to answer questions and chat about their work. Most pieces of art work will be available for purchase. \nArtWalk Westfield is held on the third Friday of each month from 5-7pm\, featuring a new mix of artist and artistic mediums each month. Launched in June 2018\, ArtWalk Westfield is a collaborative effort between ArtWorks Westfield\, host pop up gallery business owners and local artists and musicians. Working together we aspire to create a thriving art and cultural marketplace\, engage the community and attract more foot traffic to the downtown area\, creating a more energetic and active metropolitan space.

DESCRIPTION:The Agawam Community Artists and Artisans (ACAA) is meeting Wednesday\, November 14th\, 6:30 pm at the Agawam Public Library\, 750 Cooper Street\, Agawam\, Mass. The demonstrator for this meeting will be Kimberly Caruso-Poley. Kim will be demonstrating the art of making fused glass. Creating fused glass pieces are but one of Kim’s many talents. As a mixed media artist\, Kim recycles different materials such as paper\, clay\, dryer sheets\, exotic papers\, and Styrofoam. She experiments with these materials to get different effects when creating a mixed media canvas. Kim has served on many boards and is presently the Vice President of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association and the program director. ACAA meetings are free and open to the public.
