DESCRIPTION:The weekly Open Air/Open Mic series showcasing local performers will kick off on Tuesday\, July 10th in Park Square in front of the Gazebo. Sign-ups will begin at 6:00pm and the music will start at 6:30pm. There will be a sound system for amplifying acoustic music. All ages are welcome\, but performances require an instrument. Those who want to enjoy the variety of performers in this beautiful down-town setting are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Picnics are welcome\, alcoholic beverages are prohibited. The event will be cancelled in the event of rain or a clear forecast of it. The series will be hosted by local musician Andy Gould (Andyhasabend) and it is being supported by funds from The City of Westfield and Artworks Westfield \, Inc. DESCRIPTION:If you want to impact an older adult’s life in a positive way\, consider volunteering with the Westfield Council On Aging Companion Program. Companions assist homebound elders in Westfield with grocery shopping\, errands\, transportation to medical appointments\, and/or friendly visiting. The goal of the Westfield Council On Aging Volunteer Companion Program is to help older adults maintain their independence and sense of well-being. It takes only two hours per week and volunteers are reimbursed for their gas mileage. There is no charge to seniors for the service which is funded by the Baystate Health Community Benefit Grant\, the Westfield Community Development Block Grant\, Sarah Gillett Services for the Elderly\, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs\, and private donations. A memory chorus is a chance for people of all ages\, especially seniors and their caregivers\, to experience the therapeutic benefits of singing in a no-pressure group environment. This comes as the newest addition to the senior community’s Dementia Friendly Westfield Initiative.

Stop by the Farmers’ Market at Springfield Technical Community College\, which returns to campus Sept. 5. The market will be open for business each Wednesday from Sept. 5 through Nov. 14 between Buildings 2 and 13. Vendors will offer their goods for sale between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. \nThe Farmers’ Market at STCC\, a collaboration between the college and community organizations\, offers fruits and vegetables that come from locally owned farms. The market also features music and vendors selling jewelry\, lunches and flowers. Vendors accept cash\, credit and debit cards\, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)\, Women\, Infants and Children (WIC) and Elder coupons. The state program Massachusetts’ Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) will allow SNAP recipients to receive a dollar-for-dollar match credited to their EBT cards on farmers’ market purchases.
