Bombers get revenge against Malden

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School boys’ hoops team avenged an early season loss to Malden Catholic with a 59-55 win over Malden Catholic this past weekend at Westfield State University.
Justin Crosby scored a game-high 21 points for Westfield (8-7), Joe Meade had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Billy Smith finished with 12 points, and Devin Wells collected five points and 17 rebounds.
Westfield clamped down on defense the second time around, shutting down the opposition’s top scorers.
The Bombers host East Longmeadow tonight on Westfield Youth Basketball Night, beginning at 7.
HOCKEY
St. Mary 3, Agawam 0
Corey Wurster, Trey Tremblay, and Drew Malloy each scored a first-period goal for St. Mary’s, which improved to 9-5-2 on Saturday. Nate Tremblay and Charlie White each earned an assist.
Zach Brown recorded his second straight shutout in goal, making 25 saves.
TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Jacob Bellows (2nd place, 1000), Blake Croteau (2nd, 2-miler), Juan Maysonette (2nd, 55 hurdles), and the 4×200 relay team (3rd) posted incredible results in Friday night’s indoor track championships at Smith College in Northampton.
Westfield placed fourth. Amherst won the meet.
The Lady Bombers placed seventh among the girls.
Top-finishers for the Westfield girls’ included: Jessie Pratt (2nd, 55 hurdles; 2nd 300 dash), Emily Andrews (6th, 55 hurdles), Alex Lehman (9th, 300), Kianaliz Roman (10th, 300), Bridget Hartnett (5th, 600), Allyson Morin (8th, mile), Sierra Swords (9th, mile), Christina Seymour (8th, long jump), and Jaymie White (7th, high jump).

Beka Santiago scored a team-high 16 points for Westfield, which fell behind 19-5 after the first period.
