Sled hockey exhibition game in memory of teammate
WESTFIELD – The Western Mass Knights Adult Sled Hockey Team will play the 3rd Annual Cammer Cup game at the MassMutual Center on Sunday, at 1pm prior to the Springfield Falcons Hockey game (3pm). The Knights will take on the Hampden Bank Men’s League team in memory of their late teammate Alex Camerlin. Tickets are $15/adult & $11/youth and proceeds will benefit the team that he helped start.
“This is the event we mark on our calendars each year,” said Carole Appleton, Assistant Coach of the Knights. “We all miss Alex so much and our team wants to go out and show the community that we are so much more than a physically challenged team. We are hockey athletes that work hard and want to win, just like Alex always did.”
Alex Camerlin of East Longmeadow passed away weeks before the team was going to take the ice at the Falcons game for the first time as the Western Mass Knights.
“Alex not only helped start the team, he helped design the logo,” said Appleton. “Our team is committed to celebrate Alex’s memory the way he would have wanted it – with a sport he loved and the friends that made him a leader.”
The Western Mass Knights and their junior team, the Springfield Sliders, are based out of Amelia Park Ice Arena in Westfield, MA and are part of the Disability Resources Program from Center for Human Development (CHD).
Tickets for the event are available at Amelia Park Ice Arena until Friday, February 17th at noon.
