WESTFIELD – Frances M. Gietek, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke. Born in Westfield February 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Konstanti and Mary (Minalga) Adamaitis.
Frances was a lifelong resident of Westfield, graduating from Westfield High School and also Baypath Jr. College. She was a Navy Veteran of WWII where she was one of the first women parachute riggers. Frances spent many years working as the Secretary for the Colonel at Savage Arms in Westfield. She she also worked for the Division of Employment Securities in Springfield for 20 years before retiring in 1988. Frances was a communicant of St. Peter/St. Casimir Church. She was an avid reader who loved to cook.
She was the beloved mother and doting grandmother to family that survive her; a daughter, Mary-Gayle Ahearn and her husband Kevin and their three children, Meghan, Shane, and Mariel of Westfield. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Walter Gietek in 1988. Frances’ family wish to thank the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, especially the staff on three west, and also Hospice for their special care and compassion.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, December 8th at St Peter/St Casimir Church, State Street, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, both in Westfield. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made in Frances’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept.142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. The Robert E Cusack Funeral Home, 94 Main Street (Route 20), Westfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
