Westfield – Francis “Pete” Murphy, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday. Pete was born January 24, 1931 in Schenectady, NY to the late Chauncey and Verna (Tinklepaugh) Murphy. Pete was a truck driver for many years then worked at Amerigas before he officially retired. Pete then, of course, needed something to do after retirement so worked part-time at Roselli’s Machine Manufacturing for several years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Easthampton Beagle Club, and the St. Rocco’s Club. He enjoyed playing cards, laughing and treasured spending time with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping on the Lake Dunmore and Lake Champlain with his family. One thing that never changed is love for his chocolate and sweets.
Pete proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, to where he attained the rank of SSGT. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary (Fish) Murphy, his children Timothy Murphy, Brian Murphy, daughter-in-law Catherine Murphy, and his step-daughter Cheryl Wagner and her husband John “Butch”. He is the cherished Grandpa/Papa to Joshua Murphy and his wife Becki, Justine Murphy, Jenessa Murphy, Jeremia Murphy and his wife Heather, Jessica Murphy, Tara Murphy, Carin Wagner, Erik Wagner, and great grandfather to Tucker, Everett, James and Caelyn. He was predeceased by his son Terrance Murphy and his sisters Jean, Nora, Marilyn, and Sandra. Pete will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours for Pete will be Sunday, Jan 6th, from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation, 4 Princeton Street in Westfield. A Funeral Home Service will be held Monday at 1:30pm at Westfield Funeral Home with a burial to follow with full military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street in Agawam.
