WESTFIELD – George R. Sherman, 80, died, Friday, May 17, 2013 in a local nursing home. He was born on January 19, 1933 in Westfield to Clarence and Mabel (Nelson) Sherman.
George attended local schools and graduated from Westfield High School in 1951. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. George was a letter carrier for the Westfield Post Office, retiring in 1988. He was an avid golfer at the Southwick Country Club, an avid Red Sox and Boston sports fan, a member of American Legion Post 124 and a member of the Central Baptist Church.
He leaves his wife, Florence (Carr) Sherman; daughter, Debbie Sherman and his sister-in-law, June Carr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20th at 1:00 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
