WESTFIELD – George S. Howard, age 93, (1930-2024) of Westfield, passed away after a long illness at Baystate Hospital on January 25th, 2024. George was born in 
Bennington VT and grew up in the Hoosick New York area.
George leaves behind his two children, son Steven Howard and his wife Susan of CT, and his daughter Linda Pignatare of Springfield. He leaves his five beloved grandchildren, Kesia Howard of CT, Alex Howard and his wife Tori of CT, Jennifer Chattar of CA, Rachael Pignatare-Warner and wife Julie of Chicopee and Rebecca Pignatare of Florence. He also leaves his brother Royal Howard of Florida. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2003. Close to his heart were his six great-grandchildren, Tyler Mastello and his wife Samantha of Florida, Aurora Howard, Jacob Chattar, Emma Palumbo, Maggie Pignatare-Warner, and Madilyn Howard.
George was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following them through many decades of sports games, dance recitals, birthday parties, births and weddings. He found enjoyment in the small, simple things in life. A good cup of coffee; a newspaper. He was known as the sport photographer at all the games, capturing action shots before cell phones were even a thing. His sense of humor could be surprising as he was also such a gentleman. He loved to joke and laugh and share stories about American history.
George was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army as a combat engineer in occupied Germany. The wisdom he went on to share in his stories showcased his experiences and later paved the way for some of his children and grandchildren to serve.
George was employed for over 30 years at Premoid Corporation retiring in 1995. A tenure indicative of his commitment to hard work and the simple life.
George was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and supporting the local sport teams. George coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years. Later in his life he could be seen at many Little League and Babe Ruth baseball games and also frequented high school baseball and basketball games. He never stopped doing the things he loved or being a supportive community and family presence.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 2nd, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA 01085. Funeral will be private and at the discretion of the family.
