WESTFIELD – Gilbert A. Fields, 89, died peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at The Governor’s Center in Westfield. He was born in Agawam on December 3, 1923, and was the son of the late Emerson and Mildred Campbell of Agawam.
Gilbert was a longtime resident of Westfield, and was employed at Mestek in Westfield until he retired in 1988. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and served on the USS Vincennes CL-64. In his pastime, he greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and painting.
Gilbert was predeceased by his loving wife, Elvira (Fratamico) Fields, of sixty-four years, in 2011. He is survived by his loving son, Richard M. Fields and his wife Noreen of Westfield; his three beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas and his wife Charlotte, and Caitlin Fields; his brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Annie Colapinto of Springfield; his sister-in-law, Dolores Fratamico of Springfield, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Noble Hospital 2 North and the staff of the Governor’s Center, both in Westfield, and also a special thank you to Gilbert’s neighbors Lenny and Bill.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, October 30th, at the Firtion Adams Funeral Home in Westfield at 12:00 p.m. A calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. His burial will be held with Military Honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
His family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
