WESTFIELD – We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Gloria G. (Gould) Barnes, 89, (1931 – 2020) on July 14, 2020.Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 6, 1931 to the late Donald W. and Maxine (Hardy) Gould, she graduated at the top of her class from Agawam High School in 1949. For 18 years, Gloria was employed as the Office Manager at Colton Insurance Agency in Westfield before retiring in 1996. As a faithful communicant of the First Congregational Church in Westfield, she belonged to the Women’s Fellowship and the choir. She was also a former member of the Springfield Symphony Chorus, Westfield Women’s Club, area theater groups, the Tuesday Morning Music Club and the 49’s (the gathering of her classmates from High School). Gloria’s smile always brightened the room and she was adored and loved by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her husband Falcon “Tex” E. Barnes who passed away August, 2003; her grandson Joey Edwards and her siblings Donald H. Gould and Carole A. Keller. To cherish her memory, she leaves her children Wayne M Soffan of West Springfield, Liz Wellspeak (Ray) of Westfield, Mindi Doller (Rick) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Gale Smith (Craig) of Pompano Beach, FL; her grandchildren Trisha Soffan, Fred Gamache, Nicole St. Hilaire, and Amber Hopper; her great grandchildren Madison, Shelby, Julien and Isaiah Gamache and Ella St. Hilaire; her siblings Philip A. Gould and Marcia M. Macey; her sister-in-law Gail Gould, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private and burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
