SARASOTA, FL – Grace H. (Shaw) Trombley, 85, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Lakewood Ranch, FL. She was born Grace Jeannette Holcomb on July 23, 1926 in Granby, CT to Henry V. and Hilda J. (Whipple) Holcomb.
Grace grew up in Granby, CT where she attended a two room school house. She lived most of her adult life in Simsbury, CT and Granville, MA before retiring to Venice, FL. Grace married Lafayette W. Shaw in 1945 in Granby, CT and moved to the Shaw family farm. There they raised their family of four before moving to Granville, MA. They were happily married for 31 years until his death. Grace took great pride in her children raising them to be strong, independent and caring individuals. While her children were growing up she was very active with Scouts, 4-H and Church activities. Grace was later married to Edward J. Trombley until his death in 1980.
Grace was preceded in death by her brother, Harold W. Holcomb; a granddaughter, Tammy (Shaw) Larsen and a grandson, Lafayette Timothy Shaw. In addition to her brothers Henry V. Holcomb Jr., of Granby, CT and Gordon H. Holcomb of Lebanon, CT; Grace is survived by her son, Charles L. Shaw of Granville, MA; twin daughters, Irene H. Shaw (Richard Wilber), and Eileen J Boehm (Keith), all of Sarasota, FL and her son, James H. Shaw (Teri) of Sand Springs, OK. Surviving grandchildren are Mathew and Michael Boehm, James E., Jennifer and Jason Shaw; great grandchildren, Joshua Larsen, Joseph Nitsch, Hannah, Madison and Chloe Shaw and great-great grandson Jakob Larsen.
A memorial service and burial in the Silver Street Cemetery, Granville, MA will be held at a later date, yet to be determined by family.
