GRANVILLE – The Granville Police Department has recently implemented a new program that is geared towards elderly residents in town.
Started a few months ago by Granville police officer Brian Moore, who works closely with the Council on Aging, the File of Life Program provides important information for first responders when they need to respond to someone’s home in case of a medical emergency.
The File of Life Program consists of a red-file envelope that includes any illnesses, medication, and that person’s doctor’s information. Granville Police requests homeowners put the red-file envelope on their fridge, that way it will be convenient for first responders when entering the home.
“We have all their information right in front of us so it’s very helpful,” said Granville Police Lt. Rick Rindels.
“We have a pretty large elderly population so it’s a really handy tool to have for first responders,” said Rindels.
Although it’s mostly beneficial for senior citizens, Rindels did note that the File for Life Program is open for all Granville residents, not just the elderly.
The File of Life Program is free of charge for residents and is supplied by the Granville Police Department. Anyone is interested in joining the program can contact the Granville Police Department and they will hand deliver the red-file envelope and all the information to that person at their residence.
