GRANVILLE – The town of Granville held a special town meeting at the Granville Village School on Tuesday night. There were two articles that registered voters for the town meeting were able to vote on.
The first article involved the transfer of $25,000 to purchase and equip a utility truck that would be used for the Granville Fire Department.
The current utility truck is about 40 years old and is a very important part to the department as it is used for carrying equipment for water rescues and as well as car accidents.
After the town moderator, Richard Pierce, called for a motion to close the discussion and was seconded that motion, Article 1 was called to a vote.
The voters unanimously voted in favor of Article 1, allowing the upgrade to the fire department’s utility truck.
Article 2 was asking voters to approve the town purchasing a parcel of land on Beech Hill Rd. The property consists of four acres and is currently owned by Ernest Sattler.
Select Board Chairman David Ripley spoke to the crowd about the value they see in Article 2 for the future.
“We thought it would be a good piece of property to own,” said Ripley.
Moderator Pierce told the crowd that the Select Board was hoping to use the four acres on Beech Hill Rd. for a new fire station.
“Our greatest need right now would be a fire station,” said Pierce.
Along with Pierce, the Select Board wanted to reassure that using the property towards a new fire station is a long way away.
“There are lots of details that would have to be worked out,” said Pierce.
The vote for Article 2 included appropriating and transferring $59,000 from available funds in order to acquire the property. Requiring a two-thirds vote for this particular article, registered voters overwhelmingly voted in favor of Article 2.
