WESTFIELD – Gregory C. C’Miel, 68, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 in Baystate Medical Center from complications due to a serious head injury suffered several months ago. He was born in Westfield on April 29, 1951 to the late George and Mary (Grigalunaus) C’Miel. He grew up in Westfield and attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corp in 1969, serving 8 years. Greg was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Guantanamo Bay. He also served 12 years in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Wright Patterson Air Base in Ohio until 1989. After retiring from the military he worked for Camfour Inc. in Westfield and retired from the City of Westfield after working for the Westfield Police Department for over 10 years as head of maintenance. Greg loved playing the lottery, was an avid fisherman and reader while enjoying the success of his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot teams. Gregory was a kind and gentle man, a quiet person and a man of few words who spoke his piece when necessary. He was also generous to a fault, supporting local causes in his anonymous manner. He will be remembered as a good man and good soldier who loved his country.
Along with “his boys” at the Westfield police department whose friendship and brotherhood he cherished, Greg leaves his siblings George J. C’Miel of West Springfield and Boca Raton, FL, Michael C’Miel of South Daytona Beach, FL., Mary Garvey of Port Orange, FL, and Michelle Stolle of Orford, NH. He also leaves nieces and nephews Jason C’Miel of West Springfield, Craig C’Miel from Auburn, Matt Garvey of Las Vegas, NV, Kelly Byrne of New Jersey, Dianne of VT and Monica of FL. The funeral will be Friday, January 17 at 10am at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, followed by burial and military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 16 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
