Harold K. Roberts

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Harold K. Roberts, 91, of West Springfield, passed away at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home after a battle with cancer. Born in West Springfield, he was the son of Edwin and Winifred (Wysock) Roberts.
Harold attended the West Springfield school system. He loved roller skating, where he met his wife, Marion, CB radios, was an accomplished musician on several instruments and was a member of a local band. He was a milling machine operator for the Springfield Armory before enlisting in the military. During WWII, he was an armorer in the Army Air Corp, reaching the rank of Corporal. He was awarded several citations and an honorable discharge. After the service, Harold was in sales until opening his own business, Hal’s Bike Shop, in 1971. Harold retired in 1975 and enjoyed his hobbies: golf, model trains, music and fishing at his cottage on Congamond Lake.
Harold was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Marion (Richter) Roberts in 2001. He is survived by his four children; Brian A. of W. Springfield, Barry W. of Easthampton, Susan Bennett and her husband, Robert of Westfield, Sharon Drost of Westfield, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are on Saturday, September 14th from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Christian burial in Paucatuck Cemetery in W. Springfield. All are invited to join the family at The Tatham Memorial Club, 3 Paul Street in West Springfield, to reflect on Harold’s life, and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 1552 Westfield Street, West Springfield, or the Holyoke Soldier’s Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him and those whose lives he touched.
