WESTFIELD – Forget the MLB All-Star game, there’s an epic matchup and it’s coming to Cross Street Field tonight.
The Westfield South Little League Baseball 12-Year-Old All-Stars, fresh off a 10-0, 4-inning drubbing of Belchertown Saturday, have advanced to play the city’s team from the north. The showdown is set for a 6 p.m. start.
The North-South 11s will open the blockbuster double header at 3 p.m.
“This is just great for Westfield baseball,” said Westfield South 12s manager Mike Raposo. “The results show that there is strong baseball in Westfield.”
The Westfield South 12-year-old team dominated in its semifinal game.
South’s Andrew Tobias launched the first shot, a two-run homer in the first inning. The second dinger came in the third inning from Tyler Delgado (2-for-3, 2 runs), a two-run shot.
Adam Kearing went 2-for-3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored, Kyle Roberts had a hit and two runs, and Cody Garwacki completed the mercy-rule ending with a two-run single in the top of the fourth.
Delgado (4 Ks) and Nate Bonini (1 K) split pitching duties in the four-inning affair, each allowing just one hit.
