WESTFIELD – Helen L. (Wielgus) Derezinski, 84, a lifelong Westfield resident, passed away Monday September 9, 2013 at Noble Hospital, with her son, David by her side. Born in Westfield on October 26, 1928, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Sophie (Samborski) Wielgus, she graduated from Westfield High School and went on to earn her Registered Nursing degree from Mercy Hospital in Springfield MA in 1948.
She was an RN at the Springfield Armory until its closing, and later worked at Noble Hospital, as well as the Northampton Veterans Hospital, where she was an RN on the Psychiatric ward until her retirement. She loved cats, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her so, Dr. Daniel Derezinski, Ph.D; her husband, Stan; sisters, Stella and Jane, and her brother Ed. She is survived by her son, David, his wife Peggy and son Eric of Gardner MA; her granddaughter, Katherine Law of Minneapolis MN, and her sister, Mary and her husband Russ of Westfield.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday September 13th at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 335 Elm Street, Westfield, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours are omitted. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the church.
