WESTFIELD: Helen Sophie (Nagorka) Sanderson, 83, (1937-2020) passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. She is the daughter of the late John A. and Gladys (Tkaczyk) Nagorka. Helen lived her entire life in Westfield. She was baptized and married in Holy Trinity Church. She attended Holy Trinity school until 8th grade and graduated from Westfield High School in 1956. She was employed at White’s Quaint Shop, Barnard Rest Home and the City of Westfield Food Services. She was a volunteer at Abner Gibbs school. Helen was a member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of Westfield Grange #20. She enjoyed canning, cake decorating, knitting, sewing, reading the bible and listening to music.
Besides her parents Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years William A. Sanderson who passed away February 14, 2000. She is also predeceased by her three brothers John, Stanley and Henry Nagorka. Helen is survived by her loving children, Linda Vela and her husband Victor of Westfield, William S. Sanderson and his wife Amy of Blacksburg, VA and Timothy Sanderson and his wife Patty of Billerica, MA and her six cherished grandchildren, Stephen Vela, Amelia Vela, Claire Brukasz and her husband Matt, William H. Sanderson, Matthew Sanderson and his wife Sarah and Erin Sanderson.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 10:45 AM in Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St., Westfield, followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Western Ave., Westfield. A visiting hour will precede the service from 9:45-10:45 AM in the funeral home.
