SOUTHWICK – A 19-year-old woman was transported to Baystate Medical Center Sunday night after she was shot in the foot during an attempt to secure a firearm from her 21-year-old boyfriend.
According to Southwick Chief of Police Kevin Bishop, police officers were dispatched to Congamond Road just before 6 p.m. on Sunday night for a distraught man with a gun. After the girlfriend was shot in the foot during the attempt to get the gun, the male subject left the scene. The female was treated at Baystate Medical Center and released.
After a warrant was issued for the boyfriend, he was brought into the Southwick Police station at approximately 10 a.m. Monday morning by his girlfriend.
The male, who’s name is not being released, was arraigned in Westfield District Court on Monday and has been held on $500 bail and was expected to be back in Westfield District Court on Thursday. The individual is facing charges of possession of a firearm without a license and discharging a firearm within 500 ft. of a dwelling. The Westfield District Court also informed the Westfield News that the male will have certain conditions to abide by but those haven’t yet been specified.
Along with Southwick Police officers, assistance was received from Suffield Police and Massachusetts State Troopers.
