SOUTHWICK: James J. “Java” Sullivan, 73, died Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Holyoke on September 9, 1946 to the late James J. and Grace (Maloney) Sullivan. He grew up in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield and was a 1965 graduate of Tech High School.?He then went onto receive a?degree in mechanical engineering?from S.T.C.C.; formerly known as Springfield Technical Institute. He was a member of the?Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 104 and?worked for 46 years in the HVAC field and?retired from Johnson Controls. Jim was one of the original founders of the Sons of Erin in Westfield. He was a member of the NRA and the Westfield Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed?attending local car shows and building?his 1941 Willy’s Coupe. He enjoyed a good cigar, was a wine collector and woodworker. Jim’s family would like to thank Dr. Phillip Glynn and the Oncology Department at Mercy Medical Center for the great care that they gave to him for the last five and half years. Jim leaves his wife?of 40 years,?Linda M. (Goncalves) Sullivan, his daughter Maria (Sullivan) Rivera and her husband Jason of West Springfield, his grandchildren Jayden and Carter Rivera.
Calling hours for Jim will be held on Tuesday, March 10th?from 6-8 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. A service will follow at 8pm.
