Westfield – James R. Crean, 94, (1923-2018) died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in a local nursing home. He was born in Westfield on June 16, 1923 to the late James and Irene (Gadreault) Crean. Jim grew up in Westfield and attended local schools. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Columbia Bicycle and worked for the Westfield School Systems for 35 years and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and the Men’s Club. Jim was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Tekoa Country Club. He was also a member of the Westfield Amvets, and was an umpire for the Westfield Babe Ruth in 1960’s. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Jim was pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years Josephine (Lenza) Crean in 2016. He leaves his children James J. Crean and his wife Carole of Westfield, Paul A. Crean and his wife Lisa of Medford OR, Stephen R. Crean and his wife Kim of Agawam, Dr. William T. Crean and his husband Glenn Fitzgerald of Lakewood, CA and Christopher Crean of Westfield. He also leaves his grandchildren James, Michael, Jennifer, Danielle, Jacob, Rianna, Courtney, Kayla Crean and C.J., Joseph, Robert, and Cailyn. Jim was pre-deceased by his brother William Crean and sisters Mary Rose Crean and Shirley Petrucelli. The funeral will be held on Wednesday January 17th at 9:30 am from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4-7 pm.
