WESTFIELD – Janice L. Surprise, 74, of Westfield died Monday, April 8, 2013 at home with her loving family at her side. She was born in Northfield, VT on June 20, 1938 to Norman and Vera Belle (Davis) Kirkpatrick and has lived in Westfield since 1959.
Janice was a graduate of Northfield High School in Northfield, VT. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her grandchildren, quilting and ceramics. Janice also enjoyed traveling the country in the RV, going to casinos, playing cards, bingo, and socializing with her many friends at the Senior Center in Westfield.
She leaves her husband of fifty-three years, former Chief of Police in Westfield, Benjamin F. Surprise; five sons, Benjamin of Blandford, Steven of Vacaville, CA, James and his wife Liz of West Springfield, Jeffrey, Kevin; and a daughter, Laura all of Westfield. Janice also leaves three brothers, Kerry Kirkpatrick of Bristol, VT, Ronald Kirkpatrick of North Port, FL, Richard Kirkpatrick and a sister, Caroline Surprise both of Northfield, VT; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Emily and Miranda and a great granddaughter, Annalisia.
The funeral will be Friday, April 12, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield with burial to follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
