Treasure seekers were treated to a gymnasium filled with costume jewelry at St. Mary’s High School for the St. Mary’s Meals Ministry Jewelry Sale, held on Saturday, October 20. Ministry volunteers gathered donated jewelry over the past year and offered it for sale during the four-hour event.
Coordinator Beverly Donnachie said that this is the major fundraiser for the group.
“We gather donations of jewelry all through the year just for this sale”, she stated. “The parishioners of St. Mary’s and donors from across the area have been quite generous to us.”
This is the second such sale for the group, and both have been successful in raising funds to feed homebound elderly citizens of Westfield.
“It’s a lot of hard work, but we’re glad to do it,” she said.”We enjoy working together as a group to help feed those in need.”
Members of the group stated that they look forward to the preparation and delivery of hot foods to the homebound.
“This is a fantastic program,” Nancy Stefanik said, “There’s a real sense of fellowship when we all get together.”
Plans are already underway for another sale to be held sometime in the spring of 2014.
“We’re going to take a look at what we’ve done for the past two years, and make plans for the next sale,” Donnachie said. “We’ll sit down and go over what part of the sale was a success and what part needed attention. It’s really a labor of love.”
