WESTFIELD – John A. Henchey of Westfield, beloved husband of Gertrude (Sherwood) Henchey passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Renaissance Manor on Cabot, Holyoke MA. He was born on October 11,1925 in Westfield, son of the late Thomas and Julia (Svenson) Henchey.
He graduated from Westfield High School class of 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving in the Pacific as a radio operator. Upon his discharge he enrolled and graduated from the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington DC where he met and married the love of his life “Trudie”
Returning to Westfield John became self employed in the Radio and Television business. He was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church and called numbers on Bingo Night. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Model T Ford Club of America. John and Trudie enjoyed their 18 years of winter retirement in Sarasota FL where they made many new friends. John’s hobbies included candlepin bowling, clock making, cards, dominoes and using his computer. John was a lifetime blood donor.
Besides his wife Trudie , he is survived by his daughter Lisa and her husband John Cenis of South Hadley, MA and two sons, William of Chicopee, MA and Robert of Westfield, MA. as well as five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Henchey.
There are no calling hours, Arrangements entrusted to the Firtion Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be private at Saint Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Church this Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the Mass at the Saint Mary’s Parish Center.
