Westfield – John J. Zarkowski, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born in Westfield to the late Walter and Sophie (Tenerowicz) Zarkowski. John proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army from 1942-1945. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater, attained the rank of Tech Sergeant and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Oak Leaf Cluster, Victory Medal Air Medal and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal. John was employed by Westfield Vocational High School as a teacher and retired as the Placement Coordinator. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday at 10AM. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 335 Elm St. Westfield, MA 01085.
