John S. Magdycz, Jr., 71, passed away peacefully at Oriol Health Care in Holden, MA. He was born in Westfield to the late John S. and Anna F. (Banas) Magdycz and was a graduate of Westfield Vocational High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Westfield State College. John served his country with the United States Army from 1963-1965 during Vietnam and attained the rank of SP-5 (T). John worked as a designer for Comark Communications for 20 plus years and was a teacher at Agawam High School for 30 years. John was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He loved golfing, kayaking, fishing, walking and bike riding on the bike trail with his grandchildren. His family would like to extend a special thanks to his daughter Donna for being his health care advocate, and making her dads life so much easier for him. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his niece, Laurie Magdycz and by his brother-in-law and friend, Bill Cannon. John is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Dianne (Zawada) Magdycz of Westfield, his sons, Michael and his wife Dawn, David and his friend Trina, Kevin and his wife Anna, and Allen and his wife Nicole and his daughter Donna, his cherished grandchildren, Michael W. Magdycz, Jr., Aleris and Nathaniel Crum, and Catherine and Brendan Morrissey, his sister, Marlene Cannon and Jeanette Orihuela and her husband Bill, his bother Bill Magdycz and his wife Elaine and several nieces and nephews. John was pre-deceased by his in-laws Helen and Walter Zawada.John’s funeral will be held on Monday at 8:30 AM from the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Holy Trinity Church, 335 Elm St. Westfield. Burial will Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
