NORTH PORT, FL – Joyce A. Bonor, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 12th, 2023 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 16th, 1937 to the late Maud and Vernon Nason in Canaan Vermont.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ralph Bonor, in 2014, daughter Gwendolyn Tessier in 2022 and son-in-law Harold (Howdy) Lafreniere in 2018.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Debra Lafreniere with whom she lived with in North Port, Florida. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend. She leaves two grandsons, Brett and Brad (Lauren Mollison) of Huntington, MA; three great-grandchildren: Cheyanne of Huntington, MA, Skyler of Blandford, MA and Gunner of Westfield, MA. Joyce was also known as “Mama Jo” by her buddy Bernie, a Shih Tzu dog.
Before moving to Florida in 1993, Joyce worked as a crossing guard for children in Russell, MA, at Grants Department Store, White’s Printing and Electronics Company both in Westfield. Joyce was also on a bowling league at Town & Country Lanes.
Joyce loved playing bingo, was involved in various groups like Nu Pi Alpha Sorority and Grandmothers in Harbor Cove Park where she lived for 30 years. She loved shopping with her best friend Sandy and her daughter Debbie. She loved being with her family and friends back in Massachusetts. She will be missed in both Florida and Massachusetts by all who knew her.
There will be a Memorial Service on May 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Russell Community Church, 55 Main Street, Russell, MA. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Joyce’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
