WESTFIELD – T. Joyce (Remington) Samel, 85, of Westfield, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013. The daughter of the late Oliver and Lillian (Lewis) Remington, she was born in Hamden, Connecticut on April 23, 1928 and was educated in New Haven schools and the CT School of Broadcasting.
For many years, Joyce was a communicant of St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church, and more recently was a member of the Second Congregational Church. A familiar face at charitable events and an active member of the church community, Joyce will be remembered by many for her commitment to helping those in need. Joyce devoted her time to many organizations, including the Girl Scouts of America, the 4-H Foundation, the Rebekahs, Massachusetts State Grange, UNICEF, the Friendly Visitors, Civil War and WW-1 clubs, among many others.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, John J. Samel; her cat, Skooter; her daughter, Cheryl Shea and her husband Roy of Ferrisburgh, Vermont; her sister, Loes Remington of Reno, Nevada, and two grandchildren, Vienna Morrill of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Cole Shea of San Diego, CA.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 20th at 11:00 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
