Westfield – Kenneth Blaisdell, Sr., 100 (1917-2018) passed away peacefully at the Soldier’s Home on Sunday, Jan. 28th, surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born in 1917 in Springfield, MA to the late Louis and Laura (Raycroft) Blaisdell. He and his wife and family were long-time residents of East Longmeadow. He was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He then went on to earn a Mechanical Engineering Degree from WPI where Ken was a proud member of the Skull Society and was a varsity player of both the tennis and soccer teams. He was a pilot in the Air Force during WWII and a private pilot afterwards. Ken started his career as a Senior Engineer at Savage Arms, where he met his loving wife Ellen O’Neill of 54 years. After the service, Ken became owner of Tectrol Associates in West Springfield, MA. Ken was an avid golfer and often enjoyed playing with his sons, son-in-law, and grandchildren. He teed it up at Shaker Farms Country Club on his 100th birthday in front of his family and friends. Ken was a devoted father and loved spending time with his family at his lake house and clamming in the Rhode Island ponds. He never missed an opportunity to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. Along with Ken’s quick wit, and play on words, he always had a pun to brighten your day. Ken was predeceased by his wife in 2003 and brother Louis in 1991. He is survived by his three sons; Kenneth, Barry, and Jacky and his wife Cheryl, and his daughter Nancy Kotowitz and her husband, Dan. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Feb.1st from 4-7pm at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA.
A service will be held Friday Feb. 2nd at 9:30AM at the Funeral Home, with Burial to follow at Mass Veteran’s Cemetery, Main Street, Agawam at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Holyoke Soldier’s Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
