SOUTHWICK – The Select Board will be hosting the introductory meeting for the 250th anniversary committee on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Southwick Town Hall.
The kick-off meeting is open to all interested residents in town to attend. The Select Board is hoping to have numerous civic organizations, faith-based organizations, non-profits, and civic groups attend and give their thoughts on the 250th anniversary.
According to Select Board Clerk Russ Fox, the hope is to have a member of the Park and Recreation Commission, the school district, police and fire departments, as well as the historical commission, churches, and any others on the committee.
In April, the Select Board announced that they were looking to form a committee to work on the 250th anniversary project which will be celebrated in 2020. The town was incorporated as a separate community on November 7, 1770.
The Southwick Civic Fund, a non-profit organization that hosts events to raise money for the community, has already committed to assisting the committee in this process.
The responsibility of the committee will consist of trying to come up with a number of different events throughout 2020 that can be a part of celebrating the town’s 250th anniversary.
