WESTFIELD-Cory DeGray and the Knightsmen Band – celebrating 50 years of making music – will headline the City of Westfield’s Fireworks for Freedom evening event July 1 which starts at 6:30 p.m. at the South Middle School.
DeGray said to expect Americana songs to celebrate the nation’s birthday, as well as tunes from the 50’s, 60s, 70’s, and some of Neil Diamond’s classics.
Tied Down will open the show and DeGray, as the group’s band director, said they are “excellent,” adding the band features his three grandsons and nephew.
At dusk, fireworks will be presented by Atlas Pyrovision of Jaffrey, N.H., and throughout the evening, food vendors will offer specialty items. The rain date is July 2.
“Westfield has for years enjoyed fireworks, parades and Cory and the Knightsmen for festivities celebrating our nation’s birthday,” said Mayor Brian Sullivan. “Cory has entertained thousands of fans for as long as I can remember and the community always enjoys the entertainment the band brings.”
Sullivan added that celebrating 50 years as a band is a “milestone” and he is proud to help celebrate with them.
“Our fireworks display is a special time for Westfield and being able to have the local talented band and community folks headline it is special,” said Sullivan.
