PALMER – The Gateway Regional High School girls’ basketball team is on the winning path once again.
Gateway took care of business on the road, defeating Pathfinder 47-32 Monday night to improve to 5-1.
Chelsea Merrit scored a game-high 17 points for Gateway. Gators’ Chelsea Derrig dropped a pair of 3s, and finished with nine points. Allie Brown had seven.
“It’s a very similar start for us,” said Gateway coach Eli Robbins, whose team is no stranger to hot starts and solid regular season records.
“Our offense continued to key off our defensive pressure,” he said. “And then we get out and run the floor.”
While Gateway will likely compile another impressive record by season’s end, the Lady Gators will have other goals in mind – such as advancing out of the quarterfinal round when tournament time comes around again.
First thing is first though. Next up for Gateway: Westfield Voc-Tech, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m.
