WESTFIELD – The St. Mary’s High School girls’ basketball team failed to post a “W” Thursday night, but persevered.
St. Mary battled Franklin Tech, who is unbeaten in league play, but fell short 36-27. Monica Hannoush led the Saints (4-4) with 10 points. Lindsay Hunter had seven points, Jeannette Peretti had a good all-around game and scored six, and Shayna Page chipped in four.
St. Mary’s defense managed to limit Nicole Vatalaro to just 14 points. She had been averaging close to 21 points per game.
The Saints will return to action Tuesday against Lenox at Westfield North Middle School. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
Gateway Regional 50, Westfield Voc-Tech 27
Chelsea Merrit led all scorers with 11 points for Gateway. Shannon Michael notched nine in defeat for Voc-Tech.
The Lady Tigers will attempt to turn things around Tuesday against New Leadership. The Gators will also play Tuesday, at Dean Tech.
NOTES: Elsewhere Thursday, Westfield traveled to Holyoke to take on the Lady Purple Knights. The Bombers trailed from the outset. A final score was not reported following the game.
