Lakes group encourages meeting attendance

SUFFIELD – The Citizens Restoring Congamond (CRC) is encouraging residents of the lakes to attend a meeting in Suffield, Conn. tonight.
The Suffield Zoning and Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and may possibly vote on proposed changes to the zoning regulations, specifically with regard to mining in Suffield.
According to the CRC, existing regulations make it very clear that mining is not a permitted use in the Town of Suffield.
The Zoning and Planning Commission last week lost in court regarding the mining operation on Lake Road. The Commission requested a text amendment to clarify Zoning Regulations Section IV.B – Use Table, Section IV.L.q, and Section V.J.1. pertaining to earth removal.
Residents of both Southwick and Suffield are worried a gravel and sand excavation business in Suffield could affect their water.
“This is in Suffield, but it’s located within the Zone 2 area of Great Brook in Southwick, so it’s an area of concern,” said Southwick DPW Director Randy Brown.
A message from the CRC to residents said “it is very important that you attend their meeting to voice concern.”
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Suffield Town Hall.
