WESTFIELD – Lawrence Patrick “Sonny” Fournier, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2024 at Westfield Gardens. He was born in Providence, RI to the late Thelma (Fortier) and Lawrence Patrick Fournier, Sr., where his father was stationed during WWII.
He moved to Westfield with his mother, while his father was away, to stay with her family. He attended St. Mary’s Grammar School through eighth grade and went on to Westfield Trade School and graduated in 1960 as a machinist. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the submarine service until his honorable discharge in 1964. He returned to Westfield in 1964, where he met his future wife Susan Campaniello, who was a college student. They married on August 3rd, 1968 at St. Mary’s Church in Westfield. He worked as a machinist, and she finished college. He later became a quality control engineer and then owned and operated the Westgate Lounge for ten years. He finished his career as quality manager at Hoppe Tool. He served on the Westfield Parks and Recreation Committee for several years and was the equipment manager for Westfield Youth Football for five years.
He leaves his loving wife Susan (Campaniello) Fournier, his two wonderful sons, Kevin Lawrence Fournier and Corey John Fournier (Melissa) of Westfield. His sons and daughter-in-law were a great help to him and his wife especially during his illness. He leaves two adored grandchildren, Emma and Colin Fournier. Additionally, he leaves his brother David Fournier (Diane) of West Palm Beach, Florida and a sister Claire Roche of Ashville, North Carolina, a brother-in-law Jack Campaniello (Janice) of Westfield, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed reading and spending time at their summer home in Dennisport, where they entertained family and friends, and enjoyed the beaches, restaurants and shows.
We thank the caregivers at the Atrium, the nurses at Mercy Hospital, Beacon Hospice and Westfield Gardens for their help and kindness.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield followed by burial with Military Honors in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Visiting hours will precede the Mass from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
