HUNTINGTON – “I wasn’t nervous at all this time,” said Samantha Levreault, thinking back on her audition in Shrewsbury for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association “All-State” honors. “I felt very comfortable with the whole thing.”
Gateway Music Director Beth Guertin was able to announce that Samantha G. Levreault earned a first flute, fourth chair placement in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association “All-State Symphonic Band”. Levreault will perform with the band at Boston Symphony Hall on March 2nd.
Levreault had previously won spots in the Western Massachusetts Jr. District Festival in 7th and 8th grade, and has made the WMASS Sr. District Festival each year of high school so far. The Western Mass concert took place January 12, and Levreault performed with the orchestra at that event.
Levreault was positive about getting the All-State nod. “Last year I was confident because I had done so well in my senior district audition, but this year I focused a lot more.”
This was her third audition for All-State, and in 2012 she had won and performed at Symphony Hall. She is the only Gateway instrumental student in the past ten years to earn a spot in the All-State Music Festival.
Gateway’s Instrumental Music Director Beth Guertin was thrilled. “She is a very talented flute player, and has worked extremely hard. Two years of acceptance into All-state is very difficult to achieve, so I am really proud of her.”
Levreault is the daughter of Susan and Mark Levreault of Worthington, and studies flute with Sarah Swersey of the Northampton Community Music Center. She is a senior at Gateway Regional High School.
