SOUTHWICK – During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Select Board continued their discussion about the Southwick Police Department’s Lieutenant vacancy.
Looking at the job description for the position, the Select Board noted that they would be looking to hire internally within the department. Due to the fact that their job description entails qualified candidates must have eight years of law enforcement experience and at least three years of supervisory experience, the number of candidates that are qualified is minimal.
During the process of selecting the next Chief of Police, the finalists were Sgt. Kirk Sanders, Det. Sgt. Robert Landis, and Sgt. Rhett Bannish. With Lt. Kevin Bishop chosen as the next Chief on January 2, those three individuals are qualified to apply for the Lieutenant’s position.
According to Chief Administrative Officer Karl Stinehart, after working with legal counsel on finalizing the job description, the official posting to apply for the position will occur in the next several days.
