BOSTON – Former Boston Celtics player Cedric Maxwell (center) joins Westfield Police Department Community Policing Officers and 20 kids from the local area during a recent trip to see the Celtics as part of the Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone.
Initially created for the 2000-2001 season, the Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone is a special seating section that hosts children from charitable organizations at every Celtics home game. Dunkin’ Donuts provides the group with complimentary tickets to the KidZone, as well as T-shirts, the opportunity to sit courtside during pre-game shoot around and a group photo on the famous parquet floor with a Celtics player.
The Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone is part of a broader community outreach initiative of Dunkin’ Donuts that aims to host youth and charitable organizations at local sporting events. The mission of this program is to provide ticket accessibility to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend these events.
Westfield Police Department Community Policing Officer Allen Magdycz (far left) organized and planned the trip for these kids, many of whom interact with the officers on a daily basis while the officers are performing their police duties. This Celtics game opportunity allowed the officers the ability to interact positively and in a different atmosphere, while further building a rapport with the kids, which is vital to our community police effectiveness.
