CANTON, NY – Joshua T. Martell of Southwick was one of nearly 600 students who received bachelor degrees from St. Lawrence University during Commencement ceremonies held on May 17 in Canton, New York. Clinton, N.Y. — Kerri E. Grimaldi, daughter of Richard and Nancy Grimaldi of Westfield, received a bachelor of arts degree from Hamilton College on Sunday, May 24, at the Commencement ceremony concluding the college’s 203rd year. Hamilton awarded 505 diplomas in the ceremony. American businessman Philip Murphy, the former U.S. Ambassador to Germany, delivered the
Commencement address. An English major at Hamilton, Grimaldi graduated cum laude with departmental honors in English. She now joins an alumni body of more than 20,000, many of whom have made important contributions to business, the professions, government and the arts.

Calabrese named to Dean’s List at Paul Smith’s College
PAUL SMITHS, NY – Mary Calabrese of Westfield has been named to the Dean’s List at Paul Smith’s College for the Spring 2015 semester. Calabrese, who is majoring in baking arts and service management, earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher to receive this distinction.Calabrese was also named an Adirondack Scholar, having achieved a cumulative average of at least 3.8.
U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Carissa L. Tryba graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Tryba is the daughter of Dale Tryba of Southwick and Lea Jones of Chicopee, step-daughter of Jill Tryba of Southwick and granddaughter of Sandra Howell of Hampden. She is also the sister of Britney Tryba and Tom Tryba. The airman graduated in 2007 from Chicopee Academy, Chicopee.

Local Residents Receive Degrees at 147th WPI Commencement
WORCESTER – The largest graduating class in WPI’s history, 1,680 students, received their degrees beneath a large, billowing tent that shielded graduates and well-wishers from the sun that occasionally peeked from behind generally cloudy skies. In all, the Institute awarded 956 bachelor’s degrees, 682 master’s degrees, and 42 PhDs during its 147th Commencement exercises.

WORCESTER – James Lentini, a resident of Westfield and member of Assumption College’s Class of 2015, received the Luca Pacioli Accounting Achievement Award at the College’s 31st Annual Honors Convocation. 72 students were recognized for academic excellence during the ceremony, which was held on campus in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Awards ranged from departmental honors to special subject-specific recognitions, to Augustine Scholarships, the College’s highest academic honor.

Diener Mathematics Achievement Award is given to one or more mathematics majors for excellent work in their field. This award is given in honor of Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Dr. David Diener, a member of the Hartwick faculty from 1968 to 2000. This Hartwick College Honor Society was formed in 1951 to emphasize scholarship in the life of Hartwick students. Election is made by unanimous vote of the faculty members of the society. Original charter faculty members were those who were honored by election to Phi Beta Kappa. Placzek is majoring in mathematics.
Alan Robert (Robby) Veronesi graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, on May 8th. Robby received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication, majoring in Journalism and Electronic Media, with minors in Geography and Psychology. He graduated with cum laude honors from the College of Communication and Information.
Robby was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, UT Student Alumni Associates, and Volunteers for Christ campus ministry. He worked for the UT Sports Media Relations department, serving as the Sports Information Director for Men’s and Women’s Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving, and served as a staff writer and photographer for the online “Tennessee Journalist, covering all University sports.

Springfield College Recognizes 2015 Graduates
SPRINGFIELD – Springfield College recently held its commencement weekend where 621 master’s degrees, nine certificates of advanced graduate study, 16 doctor of philosophy degrees, and 27 doctoral of physical therapy degrees were awarded at the graduate commencement ceremony. At the undergraduate commencement, 973 bachelor’s degrees were awarded for a two-day total of 1646 degrees.

Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.65 to 3.84 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors.
