Bozak graduates from Bob Jones University
GREENVILLE, SC – Westfield resident Katherine Bozak was among the more than 700 students who graduated from Bob Jones University Fri., May 8.
Bozak graduated with a BA in Humanities. During the 88th commencement exercises, 531 students received undergraduate degrees and 50 students received associate degrees. In addition, 129 students received master’s degrees and 23 candidates received earned doctorates.
Keats lauded at Champlain College
BURLINGTON, VT – James Keats of Westfield was named to the Champlain College President’s List for the spring 2015 semester. Students who are named to the President’s List have achieved a semester grade point average of 4.0 or higher. Keats is majoring in Game Programming.
Keats was also named to the Champlain College Trustee’s List for the spring 2015 semester. Students on the Trustee’s List have achieved a 4.0 grade point average for two or more consecutive semesters. Keats is majoring in Game Programming.
Keats also received a Student Employee Award for Problem Solving at the inaugural Student Employee Recognition celebration on April 13.
The recipient of the award demonstrates creative, achievable and out of the box thinking that brings out the best in people and themselves affecting the community and work in a positive way.
The Student Employee Recognition event, held at colleges and universities across the country, highlights the continued success student employees bring to the College, bringing recognition to this population, and contributing to the culture of creating meaningful opportunities for students to learn valuable professional skills to feel excited, empowered and engaged at work. There were 121 nominations for seven awards.
Millikan Participated in Academic Excellence Conference
KEENE, NH – Over 160 students presented their undergraduate research at Keene State College’s 15th Annual Academic Excellence Conference on April 11. This student professional conference is designed to showcase the academic work of Keene State students and the collaborative work between students and faculty. It allows students to share excellent work with a broad audience, and prepares them for submitting proposals to professional conferences. Sean Millikan of Westfield presented on the topic “Gold Complexes and Novel Caffeine Derivatives / Organometallic Synthesis of Novel Thiosemicarbazone Ligands and Metal Complexes and Structural Analysis by X-Ray Diffraction.”
Lax Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, LA – Jennifer Eva Lax of Southwick was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Lax was initiated at Texas Tech University.
Lax is among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
NW Catholic High School Graduate Presents Research at National Conference
SELINSGROVE, PA – Abigail Johnson, of Granville, was one of 41 students from Susquehanna University who recently presented research at the 2015 annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research at University of Kentucky.
Johnson’s research, titled “Does Early Life Acute Stress Impair Attentional Set-Shifting Performance In Adult Rats?”, was supervised by Kathleen Bailey, Associate Professor of Psychology at Susquehanna.
Established in 1987, the conference is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research and scholarship done in partnership with faculty or other mentors. Students experience firsthand the processes of scholarly exploration and discovery that characterize academic life.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Research promotes undergraduate research scholarship and creative activity done in partnership with faculty or other mentors as a vital component of higher education. The annual conference has become a national celebration of undergraduate scholarly activity involving all academic disciplines and all institutions of higher education.
Johnson, a neuroscience major in the Class of 2015, is a 2011 graduate of NW Catholic High School and the daughter of Don Johnson and Martha Lilja-Johnson.
Lamoureaux honored for Outstanding Academic Achievement at The College of Saint Rose
ALBANY, NY (04/27/2015)(readMedia)– The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, announced that Jessica Lamoureaux of Southwick is one of 107 students honored for outstanding academic achievement.
Lamoureaux, a senior, received the Outstanding Senior in English Award, the Senior Writing Award and recognition for publication of an article in the College’s “Journal of Undergraduate Research” at the annual Honors Convocation held recently on the Saint Rose campus. Outstanding Senior Awards are presented to graduating seniors who have at least a 3.50 grade-point average and who meet other criteria specified by the departments in which they study. The recipient of the Senior Writing Award is chosen from a group of candidates who submit three anonymous writing samples to judges from outside the College community.
Armstrong Named to the Elmira College Dean’s List for Term II
ELMIRA, NY – Haley Armstrong ’15 of Westfield, MA 01085 has been named to the Elmira College Dean’s List for Term II, 2015. Full-time students who achieve a grade point average of 3.600 or higher at the end of any Term I or Term II are placed on the Dean’s List at the college.
