Local students make the grade

Matt Garlo, the son of James and Patricia Garlo of Westfield made the Siena College Dean’s List. He maintained a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.89 for the semester.

Slowick of Huntington Named to Clarkson University Dean’s List
POTSDAM, NY – Daniel J. Slowick of Huntington, a senior majoring in engineering and management, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2015 semester at Clarkson University.
Dean’s List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.

Endicott announces Dean’s list
BEVERLY – Endicott College is pleased to announce the Dean’s List students for fall, 2015. In order to qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must obtain a minimum grade point average of 3.5, receive no grade below a “C”, have no withdrawal grades, and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the semester. Callie Flanders makes news at Castleton
CASTLETON, VT – Castleton student Callie Flanders of Southwick, recently presented as part of the annual Castleton University event Castleton Engaged!
Hundreds of student, faculty, and staff recently filled the 1787 room of the Campus Center for Castleton Engaged!, a celebration of the many ways Castleton students engaged with their communities through coursework, athletics, student activities, and more.
Three keynote presentations ranging from engagement in the political process, issues facing educators, and on-campus student philanthropy highlighted the event, while dozens of other student groups showcased various projects and accomplishments.
Flanders also recently became a certified PAC member and victim advocate after completing more than 40 hours of training.
Peer Advocated for CHANGE (PAC) is a volunteer student group. They have been trained to educate the campus about sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and harassment. PAC members are also victim advocates who staff a 24/7 hotline, which is available to survivors or friends of survivors.
CHANGE stands for Creating, Honoring, Advocating, and Nurturing Gender Equality. CHANGE is a coalition of faculty, students, administrators and staff members who work together to develop programs that educate about issues such a

Sierra B. Swords, Biochemistry, 2016 and Tyler J. Wilk, Criminal Justice, 2017, made the Dean’s List for the fall 2015 semester at Saint Anselm College, Manchester, NH. To be eligible for this honor, a student must compile a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Jacob and Joshua Robitaille of Chester made the Becker College
fall 2015 dean’s list. The dean’s list recognizes all full-time students (24 or more credit hours earned for the academic year; 12 minimum each semester September through May) whose term grade point average is 3.50 or higher with no grade below a B- and no incomplete (I) or withdrawal/failing (WF) grades.

Springfield College Sport Management Student Brooke Fairman of Huntington earns Hoophall Classic Leadership Award
SPRINGFIELD – Springfield College Sport Management Student Brooke Fairman of Huntington earned the 2016 Hoophall Classic Leadership Award.
Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame President and Chief Executive Officer John Doleva made the formal presentation during the 2016 Spalding Hoophall Classic at Blake Arena.
Fairman was a key contributor during the 2016 Spalding Hoophall Classic, the leading high school basketball tournament in the country showcasing the nations top recruits. As part of the responsibilities, Fairman helped lead more than 75 student event staff workers and more than 30 student liaisons during the event. Fairman created and conducted training sessions for volunteers of the event; collaborated with Springfield College Office of Conferences & Special Events, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and ESPN to ensure schedules of events; and supervised all event operations during the five-day tournament.
Fairman is a native of Huntington and is the current president of the Springfield College Sport Management Club. Fairman served as one of the main student leaders for the Springfield College Department of Sport Management and Recreation at this years Hoophall Classic, the third consecutive year she assisted at the event. She has earned deans list status on a regular basis during her academic career at Springfield College, which includes a double minor in business management and coaching. She graduated from nearby Gateway Regional High School before enrolling at Springfield College, and currently works as a camp counselor for the Huntington Recreation Committee during the summer.
The Hoophall Classic Leadership Award is presented annually to both a male and female junior majoring in sport management who has maintained a successful grade point average and demonstrated a combination of service to Springfield College and the Hoophall Classic. The recipients are each awarded a $2,500 scholarship to be used during their senior year at Springfield College.

Colby-Sawyer College Nursing Student Kyleigh Lund Travels to Mexico for Medical Mission
NEW LONDON, NH – Colby-Sawyer nursing student Kyleigh Lund of Chester traveled to Puerto Penasco, Mexico, from Jan. 7-13 with 13 members of the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) as part of a medical mission coordinated with International Service Learning (ISL), a non-governmental organization that offers volunteers practical experience with medical, education and community enrichment programs.
Lund, a member of the class of Class of 2016, brought much-needed supplies to the coastal community in the northwest of Mexico including topical antibiotic ointments, children’s vitamins, prenatal vitamins, toothbrushes, toothpaste and Band-Aids. Students also administered medications, completed vital signs, initiated intravenous therapy and fulfilled community health, public health and cultural learning objectives.
“Our time there was an eye-opening experience, and it touched each and every one of us,” says Lisa E. Wilson, assistant professor of Nursing and Public Health who, along with Associate Professor of Nursing and Public Health Dr. Joan Loftus, accompanied the students. “The need is great in Puerto Penasco, and we found it difficult to leave with so much work still to be done.”
The School of Health Professions and the SNA plan medical mission trips once every two years, providing nursing students with hands-on experience in international health and experiential learning outside the class.

Westfield Resident Named to Assumption’s Fall 2015 Dean’s List
WORCESTER – Dominick Ciejka of Westfield, a member of the class of 2018, is one of 509 students named to the College’s undergraduate Dean’s List for the fall 2015 semester.
To earn a spot on the Dean’s List, Assumption students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester. The Deans List is announced twice every academic year, once at the completion of the fall semester, and again at the completion of the spring semester

Calabrese was also named an Adirondack Scholar, having achieved a cumulative average of at least 3.8.
