WESTFIELD – The Little League Baseball postseason came to an end Saturday for two local teams with the exit of the North and South All-Stars, but there is more great summer action on tap this week.
On Monday, the American Legion Baseball playoffs begin with Westfield Post 124 traveling to Forest Park to face off against East Springfield Post 420 in the first of a best-of-three series. First pitch is slated for 5:45 p.m.
Post 124 will host Game 2 Tuesday at a site and time to be determined. If necessary, Game 3 would return to Forest Park.
Later this week, the Westfield Babe Ruth 13-Year-Olds will host the New England Regionals at Bullens Field. Westfield opens up the double-elimination tournament against New Hampshire Friday at 7 p.m.
Although Westfield will not play until Friday evening, a special Vintage Base Ball game will kick off the festivities Thursday when the Westfield Wheelmen and Whately Pioneers play in old-time fashion. The game, featuring the Pioneers’ Jim Bouton, former New York Yankees pitcher, will be played at Bullens Field at 7 p.m.
While the action should keep the Whip City buzzing for some time, out in the eastern part of the state, the Westfield Little League Softball Senior All-Stars will participate in the regionals, with a World Series berth on the line.
The Westfield Seniors open against Maine at Ty Cobb Field in Worcester Saturday at 2 p.m. For a full schedule of events, log on to thewestfieldnews.com.
