WESTFIELD – Makailah L. Desharnais, 24, beloved mother, daughter, granddaughter and friend, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 5th. Born October 1st, 1998 in Springfield MA, she grew up in Westfield and was a 2017 graduate of Westfield High School. She received her Associates of Science in Nursing from HCC in June 2023, and had spent the past years enjoying her time as a student nurse, Home Health Aide and Certified Nurse’s Aide. Makailah worked for O’Connell Care at Home and Western Mass Hospital. Growing up, she was an avid equestrian, spending many years training with her horse Riley. She loved animals, from her childhood dog, Piggy, to collecting hermit crabs and snails on the Cape and taking care of the horses at the barn; she had an incredible heart and smile.
Above all else, Makailah’s pride and joy were her children, Braiden and Elliott. Makailah is already tremendously missed by Braiden and Elliott, her mother Marissa Horan and her stepfather Edwin Losacano of Westfield, her sister Abigail and brother Leo, her maternal grandfather David Horan and his wife Sandra of Westfield. She also leaves her aunts Rebecca Lacouture and her husband Brad of Needham, their children Benjamin and Braxton, and Kelci Horan of Brockton and her daughter Justice, her father Jason Mundt and his partner Brenda, her paternal grandfather Joseph Martin, Jr. and the late Lynn Martin. She was greeted in heaven by her maternal grandmother Gail Horan, who passed away in 2005. Makailah was loved by many, also leaving behind several step-siblings and extended family and her lifelong best friend from birth, Karissa Bean.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 14th at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Church, 30 Bartlett Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to benefit Makailah’s children, Braiden Gelina and Elliott Rodriguez Memorial Fund, C/O Easthampton Savings Bank, 85 Broad Street, Westfield, MA 01085. www.firtionadams.com
