City man arrested for threatening men with knife

WESTFIELD – A story that ran in the Saturday print edition of The Westfield News erroneously reported that Jacob Samborski was arrested after firing a gun.
While Samborski, 27, of Westfield, was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, that weapon was a knife, not a gun.
Allegedly, Samborski had been following and threatening two men with the knife Wednesday night, March 9, when one of the men went to his car, obtained a gun, handed it to the other victim who shot the gun into the ground in an effort to thwart Samborski’s advances, according to court records.
Multiple calls had come into dispatch at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday night due to the gun shot.
Callers reported seeing a suspicious man with a gun near the Berkshire Bank located at 31 Court Street, according to police logs.
The police logs didn’t provide the whole story, so a witness and one of the victims emailed The Westfield News to point out the discrepancies.
The defendant continued to advance towards the victim with the knife and did not stop advancing until police arrived, according to court records.
This testimony was received by the victim and an independent witness, according to court records.
Samborski was released on $500 personal surety after being arraigned in Westfield District Court on March 10.
He is due back in court on May 12.
