WESTFIELD – Some 130-plus Little League Softball players from all throughout the Whip City are preparing for the upcoming season with practice sessions this week. Little Leaguers dusted off the gloves, and flocked to the Westfield Vocational-Technical High School gymnasium to begin stretching, throwing, and running Monday night.

“It’s not too bad right now,” said Bob Fanion, Vice President of Westfield Little League Softball. “We need to get some more pitching though.”

While Fanion said there a few good pitchers in the older group (ages 13-16), he would like to see some more girls in the 7-9 and 10-12 age groups commit to the position.

“It’s a big commitment (to pitch),” he said. “It’s a lot of work.”

Currently, there are four Senior League teams, five for the Majors, and three Instructional League squads.

The draft for all groups is scheduled to take place tomorrow. Opening day for Little League Softball and Baseball is April 21.
